New oil/export routes for western Canada and Alaska

"Experts see more good news than bad for Canada's energy industry if the U.S. lifts its decades-old ban on oil exports.

The ban came into force when oil shortages were commonplace 40 years ago — a stark contrast to today's U.S. glut, thanks to fracking in shale formations in Texas and North Dakota.

U.S. House of Representatives votes to end 40-year-old oil export ban
U.S. moves closer to allowing crude oil exports
Congressional leaders have reached a deal on a massive spending bill that includes allowing the sale of U.S. crude in the global market.

Skip York, a vice-president at consulting firm Wood Mackenzie, says lifting of the ban could make it easier for Canadian crude to get to lucrative Asian markets.

Right now, Canadian players need a re-export permit if they want to ship crude to the Gulf Coast and then export it to Asia via the Panama Canal.

York says a policy change would remove that obstacle, but the first choice for Canadian producers is to still to send their crude by pipeline to the West Coast."

All they need to do is reverse the Alaskan Pipe line. Problem solved... oil off to Asia.

Yukon and NWT have asked for the west coast pipe line route... this would be the shortest route to Asia... through Valise... and short out all the BC natives and anti-tanker complainers. Same for liquid natural gas exports... and NWT oil/gas production.

      Good to see more options.

Something tells me the natives in northern BC would be quickly campaigning to have a pipeline through their reserves once they see the money involved.

Very little of OUR oil should be exported. Period.

There is enough going south every day as it is. We will rue the day that even more is exported.

Tom, do you think some Eskimo might have to move his igloo? What would the world look like if there was no oil? We need the carbon.
