As a person who has only fairly recently experienced central air conditioning; I can testify that next to having an attached garage (even heated one); there are few nicer conveniences and one could even come to see them as necessities.

And amongst the things I plan to fight for are my "rights" to be comfortable in old age. In fact there are several ways to ensure that will happen; and it will take some pretty deep regulatory thinking to prevent a person from doing so.

They'll have to pry my air conditioner from my cold dead hands. I've entered that 'older age' and some things like AC, a heated attached garage and a convertible to scoot around in on hot summer days are for me necessities. Damn the cost - I can afford it. I did without for so many years, I'm making up for it now. And I completely ignore the topic of climate change. It's the next generations problem to solve. I've done my part. And that's all I have to say about that!

Actually hardly use my air conditioner, but when you have a house full of company, it's really appreciated. We don't get more than a day or two 40 degree days.

Had an air-con in the house until we renovated about 10 years ago. Everything had to be removed. We never put it back in. Don't miss it.

Funny how we are all different. May first till at least middle of september windows closed tight here, and air is on. Not letting that 90-100 percent night time humidity in my house.

Too humid and now TOO dry, got all your humidifiers running?
AC in house needed about 10 days max here, global COLD zone 355 days a year. We have a COOL lower level, and the COOL shop to work in summer.
Now a great efficient furnace, runs HALF the year,

I like to keep those types of decisions simple 'round here.

When the wife says we need A/C, we god damn have A/C, and lots of it.

                        Happy wife, happy life.

Which all goes to point out why the AC ain't gonna get turned off....

Hey, here's a novel thought, why not just leave it on, be nice and comfortable and then TAX it!!

                          Oh, wait, that's what's comin'...

Have friends in town that have a perfectly controlled temperature of 21C in their house year round. In summer the air-con runs all day and the furnace runs all night. The next day it repeats. Still, she is never happy.

We were at a friends house last week. They keep the daytime heat at 68 degrees. By the time I came home, I need a hot bath. Our house stays at 75 degrees all day, all winter. Our heat bill runs about $150/month, but we aren't about to shiver our way to the grave.
