      It looks like a lot of people were inadvertantly caught driving on that highway and could easily lose their lives.

        Mother Nature will do what she wants. She controls forces that man has no match for. Fires in Northern(west) Canada are another example. We had to wait til she provided the conditions that slowed the advance of the fire and put it out.

          Fires play an important role in insect control and forest regeneration. It's funny when the press reports on the huge size of forest fires in California. The last one I heard talked about 1000 acres - -a mere section and 1/2.

            12 months ago was a huge fire in adealaide hills sort of hobby farm area burnt 12,000 ha over 9 days before they got it out.
            This one in prime farming land burnt 87,000 ha in 4 hours we had ash falling at our place 150 kms away.
            Started 800 meters from cousins farm been found to be a electric fence box and another cousin lost tractors crop and chasers bin but harvestor was spared
