Place the attorneys in line at a canola crusher with a plugged leg and see how valuable their time is.

Notice how the older guy said he may not have the experience but could at least talk the same language.
The younger ones claimed to know all there was to know about the job. Sound familiar? Know a lot of city dwellers sound like that regards farming.

Quote from the old guy was bang on. Id kind of equate "getting your cdl" to having a garden patch. Its wholly different from having 10+ years in the industry.

Iv'e had this idea about starting an agricultural re-education camp... ill hire 100s of green do gooders (gdg's) to work a couple thousand acres. Every acre would be worked, seeded, weeded, and harvested by gdg hands and all production would be carried in packs to market on foot. All in an effort to be as carbon and chemical free as possible. Then at the end of the year tell them that all their blood, sweat, and tears could instead be undertaken by one farm family and the lineup of equipment that sat in the shed. On top of that, they could be liberated from near slavery to live a latte living life with plenty of leisure in the city.

Perhaps after a year they would have a new appreciation for pesticides and carbon spewing iron? Maybe... just maybe.

You got to have skin in the game to get true grip on it. Running on a margin and the hours. You can't take a coarse and drive for a week and have a feel for it.
