      Introduce profit sharing will drive results faster than LEAN because employees help with the gains.

      Ipsco introduced it in the mid 90s. Made a lot of very rich people in or out of the union.

          First it is total bs to say a $40 m contract cost the province $6B. Just absolute fabrication. No basis in truth whatsoever.

          Second to say we have Unions here so cooperation is the answer. Is just more of the same trying to get a different result.

          Third we spend so much on healthcare if there wasn't an attempt at innovation and cost reduction then you ain't doin your job imo.

          But then it is "ok" that nurses have an informal system to take sick leave so someone else gets more overtime. Doesn't sound like fraud to me.

              There are many nurses that work a lot of hours . If they are strategic about it, they can earn up around $150,000 to $160,000. The health districts have to find ways to manage their facilities where they look for improvements in all aspects . Then it may be a management issue instead of a union employee issue.
              I am not defending unions, but poor managers can go over budget as well.

                    But I have seen the practice of calling in sick so the next shift gets overtime.

                    Management has a responsibility to stop it. That's what contracts are for.

                    I don't agree with it and I don't support the practice. But there is a way to deal with it.

                      The catch there is, many hospitals are short staffed, one person calls in sick it throws quite a wrench in the day. They are mending people with multiple ailments. One nurse gets called in, takes the shift because its OT.
                      This was also a frequent occurence with welding and labour shortages up in FT. Mcmoney. It was not as discussed because the money was available.

                        Part of the reason less want to go into the health system is the pay in relation to the oil industry what has set the bar for costs of all industries someone sitting on their ass in a truck all day makes more than someone else going 6 years to school???

                          It wasn't that many years ago when Roy Romanow did a "health care study" and got paid somewhere in the amount of $12 MILLION to do it! What in the F___K did we get out of that? As usual , all we got was the bill and ol Roy has a great retirement.

                              Is some sectors profit sharing works, or can work, for a short time.
                              Problem is what happens when the employees have a couple of good years( large profit share) then a year of no profit sharing? ENTITELMENT is the focus. People budget on what they expect, and for the most part live pay check to pay check. Then the focus is on doing less because they are not paid as much.
                              Always best to pay what the companies can afford for good, key employees. Way more motivating, pay the productive ones.

                                I agree but I think if employees are part of the process they begin to see both sides. As business slows they begin to understand why profits end up where they are.

                                They begin to realize the impacts of poor decisions by governments on pipeline projects. Union or otherwise.

                                They also begin to see how hard work by the sales team all goes to shit because of it.

                                They realize it's out of their control even though they all busted their ass.

                                Some look forward to a break others start businesses for infill when this go for shit.

                                But being part of the process with profit sharing definitely creates better employees and a better work force. And by extension a better company.

                                Caveat:... Being sold to a Russian company can change all that. Evraz appears to have gone full cycle.
