    Brad Wall's Job Creation.

I suppose if you live in town, or farm where oil is now where near you, Brad Wall's suggestion of creating jobs by cleaning up abandoned well sites sound good. But if your in the reality zone of the oil pumpers and non pumpers you know that is not happening---- unless Sask Party has a plan to subsidize this all. Oil companies cannot afford to clean up these sites, and ninety five percent of farmers will never sign off the easement anyway. Dirt removal and top soil replacement is a cost that would be astronomical. However some day it may have to happen anyway, but for now it is not going to happen.

Whats most likely to happen is that downhole abandonment would take place. Then as far as the Ministry of the Economy is concerned; the well bore liability is zeroed out; and the salt and oil damage is left for another day. Thats already happening in whole oil fields.

And maybe the lease payments get paid to somebody (certainly not necessarily the landowner).

And thats where someone who has retained surface rights from previous land sales may be totally satisfied with any financial lease arrangement they may make with an oil company....because they may realize full well that payments will certainly cease when full site cleanup is finally completed.

Lots of angles and players and perspectives.

I do think the oil industry is subsidized enough without giving them more money. Taxpayers will always lose in the end.

Always wondered about logic of allowing owners to sell farmland but keep future surface lease payments.
New owners got stuck with costs.
