This is very bad for the hay industry.
You might as well spray down your alfalfa fields and direct seed roundup ready canola into them. After you dismount your new efficient sprayer, walk over and give your Monsanto rep a kiss on the cheek for making you so much money with their progressive technology.
This is very bad.

What bothers me is Monsanto wants to own and reap financial benefits of the technology but not be responsible for it's negative affects and financial burdens suffered from the consequences of it's existance.
Hypocrites.

Absolutely, when you think of the vigour with which Monsanto has pursued farmers for growing RR crops without paying a technology fee to them. When you see the Investor State Dispute Settlement provisions written into current trade agreements whereby foreign corporations can sue governments if their actions are seen as something that might reduce the corporations future profits ......... So it should all apply in reverse - these clowns should be taken to the cleaners and prosecuted to the fullest extent of these laws - by the Government on behalf of farmers and consumers. Should also be prosecuted for the act of illegal propagation of these crops. They were growing it in the US before they had USDA approval there, now they do this in western Canada and pretend its an accident. High handed criminals.

"But so it is".... and that's why shit like this keeps happening. Tech that the majority don't even want being shoved down our throats.
The fact you guys just shrug it off is even scarier then the fact biotech pulls stunts like this.

I was thinking of how impossible the situation was and they philosophical organic farmers were creating some kind of " boogeyman" to justify their organic existence. .....here we are today. The older I get I realize how people are waaaaaaay smarter than I am!

I attended a meeting in Brandon last week to hear leading French and German activists speak on the realities of the seed saving regulations that they have had in Europe for decades but have only recently been introduced here. They were also commenting on their experiences to keep out GMO products. They were not encouraging stories to listen to - the odds are stacked against us. As usual most farmers sit back and do nothing or bellyache that "their organisations" aren't doing anything to stand against the new seed saving regime.
Well the NFU is doing something - they brought two of the leaders in the field from Europe to tour Canada speaking and get rewarded with small turnouts and no enthusiasm. So pile on with the derision of the NFU for being a backward looking, useless organisation but from where I stand its the only one with the smarts to see and tackle the real issues facing us today.

Are you referring to the lawsuit against Monsanto's GM canola hobby? I'm not aware of one against GM alfalfa in Canada. I wrote our ex ag minister a couple of years back explaining to him the dangers of RR Alfalfa as I saw them. The best he could do was recite almost word for word the Chem companys approach for coexistence with non GM alfalfa. Has anyone read the approach these fools spew for coexistence. It is an insult to anyone who has any knowledge of ag. What are we to do when our politicians treat these issues as though they will have no long term negative effects. I think we all know the answer. Hold them responsible for there actions.
