To expand. One railcar with a lifespan of 40 years should make 550 turns at 40 bucks one way or 2.2 million revenue for a purchase price of 108000 cdn.

Imagine if they could ship grain out and fertilizer back in.

I have about $200 per acre available. I don't need that much of course but it is really nice to have lines available from different retailers. When I first started I had to often buy someplace because that was where I had credit and it drove me crazy. In a perfect world I would have a full input package at every retailer I deal with then it is simply a matter of price and service shopping.

Not to offer unsolicited advice Klause but I wouldn't be afraid to ask for more/increases. Especially from different retailers. If you have Patterson/Richardson close by they are separate from FCC and it is nice to have some outside of them.

          Farmaholic

You have to pay attention to those that speak on your behalf if their record ****s up the goals you set.

Gerry ritz decimated agristabilty into a worthless program for the average farmer.
And reinvented Nisa as agrinvest with half the benefit.

Others helped promote an open market without putting the simplest of checks and balances in place.

These are some things that need some attention.

And why is it that railways have no obligation to move to a minimum of a million tonnes a week?

            Thanks Graham...

Our input side we are OK... but it would be nice to have more available for fuel, rent, parts... you know all the "little" things that add up.

Agreed Bucket. But I was focusing on the marathon participants not the rule makers.

What I'm saying is not the type here to get it anyway.

Pretty easy to farm when you inherit all your land, buildings, machinery, and a full crop, and have at it...

Really tiring hearing guys like that complain about how hard they have it. Um no, you don't have it hard.... or then go off about how wonderful things are all the time.
                LOL).
First off don't worry about these outstanding young equity farmers.

Put your work clothes on, Put your head down and keep working. You will be surprised how quickly you shit turns to gold and their gold turns to shit.

It sounds like your on the right page. Just keep working. You don't need a S690 or a longhorn truck anyways.

And yes that award is the original widow maker

Lots of things we don't do around here, use an operating line is one of them. Still manage to get by.

Q: How do you be successful at farming?
                        A: Inherit land

Without inherited land to anchor the place you will likely fail and should sell while there are still buyers. In a protracted period of deflation it will be impossible to keep costs under revenue. It is the free inherited land that does that for you.

                          Thank you for saying that.

I thought it was a myth/urban legend when I hear young bucks talk.

They are all self made men when they speak and for some reason beyond my logic...listened to.

How do you inherit land if someone didn't buy it before you...

                              Klause

The difference is many quarters were bought and paid for with one crop. And the banks didn't finance the deal. The farmers did the deal amongst themselves.

                              Try that today.

But then again at age 52 I am still hoping for that inherited land option to come my way.

                              Crazy hey?
