      Left wing math:

"Yes he started out paying down debt that by the way was a carryover from Grant."

Larry your missing cost of borrowing there were some high interest years there.
I think we were only paying the interest on the Devine debt and not Able to bring the principal down much

I can't believe there is a debate/discussion about this. The numbers speak for themselves. Just look at Manitoba and Ontarios increased debt over the last 10 years. The increased dependants on government assistance is incredible. Try taking these handouts away from these people now. People think they are owed a living now. This is the monster socialist governments create. Unsustainable!

Devine and Wall had different objectives. Devine, despite the economic obstacles, built to generate future wealth as Bucket described (but missed the cow-calf program) and maybe more. I have great respect for Wall, though I don't think we have seen any visionary wealth-generating accomplishments -do you. I don't like the debt of the football stadium nor the fact that overpasses and new ring road are being built by French company when the oil facefall has left so many unemployed. Some moght say, "small potatoes!"

This table is Net financial debt ... not net financial debt ..before or after interest costs.

During the NDP reign debt went from 5.239 billion to a high of 11.083 billion - an increase of 5.884 and ended at 8.277 billion - an increase of 3.281 billion.

Blaming it all on Devine is bullshit.

If Devine hadn't built the Shand Power plant and the associated dams, we would have never been able to supply this recent oil boom and the extra 100,000 residents in this prov. Of course you require debt when building capital project of this size, sad how the ndpers and media still slagging Devine.

How many people in this prov. build a house from scratch and pay for it all in the same fiscal year?

Very glad that Brad paid down our U.S. bankers with par CAD's when he did rather trying to pay it with 70 cent dollars, it would have taken a hell of a lot more dollars via taxes or royalties.

Thank you Larry for that reality check.

Arguing with a socialist is like mud wrestling with a pig. Even if you win you'll get covered with shit and the pig won't change his thinking one iota.

The NDP never wanted to pay down "Grant Devine's debt" it was too good of a rallying point.

We were just a "wee province" by the way.

Riders you keep saying 100 oil where did the money go. I think they state that oil brings in 700 million. Highways alone took 250 to 350 of that.

Then you have the perennial health and education sectors that could soak up as much as you throw at them.

Add a few years of flooding and wild fires and there you go. All of that and still the second lowest debt level in Canada. Wait a year and we will be the lowest.

If Devine hadn't built when he did someone should do the math on the debt and the costs to do today.

Big payoff. Sadly the ndp sold for too cheap as well.

                          No one analyses those mistakes.
