East sask is likely worse off than here.
and you make the point, if you are in oil life is good. But if not all that the oil has done is drive up the costs for us. It has not seemed to provide more money than expand roads etc into areas where they are developing oil. All those years of high oil prices we should be seeing huge benefits everywhere in the province, and I just doen t see it. And in one short year the province is broke? There should be oil in the province but if you re going to go all in there better be benefits to everyone not just those in it because indirectly it is costing the rest of us lots.

the high oil prices and boom really pumped a lot of $ in , good grain prices
and crops = good economy.
farm wages went way up, but that is a good thing, everyone paying taxes lightens the load for everyone.

whether govt.s and individuals were prudent enough to save for this is another matter.

as for oil patch help.

i know personal y that a lot of the old wells were sold off to small corp.s and individuals. the reason seemed pretty clear, to avoid liability and clean up costs.

it just does not seem right now for the taxpayer to get the bill for cleanup.

and if times are tuff, just like on a farm. you just don't do it now.
put off the expense.

rather than spend on EI, and people sit on their ass. pave some roads, fill potholes. maybe at 20$/hr.
not 80$/ hr. at least until oil comes back.

EI welfare to overpaid employees:

Jeeze, funny how our farm programs only cover the basics and don't care if farmer A spends $150/ac more than farmer B. Allowable expenses...

Shouldn't EI only cover the basics and the recipient should somehow be responsible for their own "lifestyle" expenses over and above basics?

It was almost too good and set a false sense of security. With the take-home some of those employees were making, you would think they should have a bit of a nest egg somewhere?

Funny how some people can eke out an existance on minimum wage but some others are always broke earning 5-7 times as much.....who's fault is that?

And I'm not for one second condoning a race to the bottom when it comes to earnings. It's just the extremes I'm pointing out.
