Peter Lougheed had some very sound guiding principals but he also had the luck of timing. He left Don Getty to face low oil prices and the fallout of the NEP. Lougheed built a lot of small rural hospitals that were unsustainable in the long run. He liked to spend.

Socialists have the mantra of instigating class struggle and appealing to the unions, natives, poor, and social justice types. They had their day in May and did some good stuff under Tommy like John A did but that was many moons ago.
