Video: How to be a dairy farmer in the desert

    #2
As a follow up to the Potato farming in Eqypt video we posted, here's another farming video in the desert.

This dairy farm in Saudi Arabia has 46,000 dairy cows.

Cows average 42L per day, milked 4 times per day.

Staff of 698. Everything is computerized.
    Water misters keep cows cool.

Who would have thought there's so many farming opportunities in the desert!

Makes you wonder how important sustainability is to their wholesalers, retailers and consumers?

Apparently it is very important in North America and Europe. Then there are the carbon foot prints, water use efficiency issues as well.

Saudi Arabia aims to be self sufficient in milk production. For one of the most oil rich countries around to want to produce their own milk at such a cost it gives you an idea of what it means to have a secure food supply. Something we take for granted.
