None of our politicians have had balls to deal with this for years. Never mind the Metis we can t afford this bullshit of the full bloods. The gov solution was welfare per kid so guess what happenned? It's created a voting block as well its been out of control for ever this is just another step. Those treaty interpretations were all bullshit from the start. But lawyers and politicians were too busy collecting pay checks instead of doing what was right.

Canada is a stoopid people pleasing nation. Everybody could have a claim for special treatment because of hardship or wrong doing of some sort.

I guess some people are entitled to keep working and paying tax and to pay their and "other's" way. Maybe we should all do less, unfettered Socialism as bad as unfettered Capitslism.

Do you think more money will fix Attawapiskat? I doubt it, but "purpose" might! An idle mind and body are................ . If there is nothing there or never will be....move to where something is. Is there anything stopping them from going back to 100% traditional ways if the "state of dependency" they've become accustomed to is harming them. We have a ****ing wreck on our hands and we may have just added to the pile-up.

What are the solutions? Because the status quo sure isn't working. I've said it before, what took a century and decades to create won't be fixed in a few years....segregation instead of assimilation was a mistake. No one said they had to give up every thread of their culture and tradition in the process of assimilation and by the way they seem to now only want to rekindle some of it....which is fine but constant concessions and special treatment?

Ever see the TV coverage of people living in the jungle or desert the same way their predecessors did? What is there to show in Canada? Except maybe for the nomadic carribou tribes....the rest seems like a horribly failed social experiment.

Speaking of Pow Wows. I did take in the FNU(First Nations University) Pow Wow in Regina at the beginning of April. I wanted to see.

The Grand Entrance was actually moving, the costumes and such are quite nice.

They got a little political at some points.

The RCMP, Indigenous Veterans, Sask's only MP, and other dignitaries and Elders were in the procession.

They talked about the Sask Indian Institute of Technology, the FNU and the Grads. Missing Indian women(even if it is Indian on Indian violence at times).

I think they want what we have(Oooo--loaded
statement) and are working at empowering themselves through
education to "earn" it.

There is already a generation that has begun breaking the cycle. The children of that generation will hopefully want to continue as well.

In a way its only starting.

There was a book of Scrip which listed every Metis name kept in Winnipeg. You were Metis in the sense that land was scripted to each family by the province after the Riel Rebllion. As far as provincial sales tax, we were also told that Metis down East have been exempt from provincial taxes for years now. Can you imagine, when you buy a car, no tax and everything else you buy too - and free education for your kids as well. I'm sure the universities are pleased!

Sidebar note: No one should let their spelling or grammar stop them from posting here. It really doesn't matter, good grammar and spelling haven't made me any more money in my lifetime. In fact I hated English in school, some papers I wrote had more red ink corrections in grammar, spelling and punctuation than I care to admit.
