SF3, you hit the nail on the head! And being as the beef is imported it is unlikely that their claims will be scrutinized.

You guys spouting off about antibiotics realize that rumensin is what most of the idiots are talking about when they say "cattle are fed antibiotics ". Rumensin is an ionofore that alters the rumen bacteria to select for more efficient ones and prevent bloat. Combine that with hormones, which are long past the withdrawal period at slaughter and your feed efficiency goes from 7:1 to almost 5:1. So what do you want to do? Minimize environmental impact or hide from an imaginary boogy man? I don't care what earls dies because I didn't like that place before but the beef industry needs to get off their ass and appease these idiots while at the same time making it clear they are getting in the way of best practices.

Feeding cattle without Rumensin can bring on an absolute shit storm due to coccidiosis.
Hamloc summed it very well.
I'd love to supply a niche market, but give me some incentive.
If I have to do a bunch of extra work I might as well go direct to consumer.
Until the packers plug that hole.
Farmers aren't suppose to sell direct to the consumer.
Screws everything up.

So what's next? Rhizobia bacteria? Maybe they prefer synthetic fertilizer?Last edited by farmaholic; Apr 29, 2016, 22:17.

Way back in the day we used to feed out our calves and never used ruminsin. Never had problems but then again out feeders weren't standing up to their bellies in cow shit either.

Rather see them in grass.

Question is how many are finishing them on larger pasture type areas grain and grass? Probably not many. I doubt the imported stuff is better though than our feedlot stuff.

Bubble wrap, bottled water, only native grass, shade or sunscreen, non-treated fence posts, preferably open range laws, if not....smooth wire(non-electrified of course) instead of barbed, kosher salt and daily grooming...Last edited by farmaholic; Apr 30, 2016, 22:07.

Isn't singling out either certified humane or certified angus discriminatory and going to cause mental anguish to all the others?
I thought we taught our kids to be all inclusive, not to bully or discriminate and that no matter how poorly they perform....they can't fail!!! How do you explain it to the animals that they're not good enough for______?
Ok that was just stupid....Last edited by farmaholic; Apr 30, 2016, 22:18.
