    Saskatchewan budget guesses

I am thinking 1.5 billion to as high as 2 billion.

    What do you guys think?

I'll guess, less deficit than that, but a lot more austerity.

Sure hope there is austerity. It is really the most important thing. I think you're in the ballpark bucket, unfortunately.

$434 million deficit for SK, doesn't sound nearly as bad as Manitoba's which came out yesterday(I think), at something like $941 million.?

Likely not...but how many conservative have been as well....The cons have added more debt to Canada than even the Liberals....the only real downturn in Canada's debt was by Martin and Chretien...scary, isn't it?

Actually, now that I think of it... NDP Muclair was beating a fiscally responsible budget...that did him in!

Martin and Chretien, did a great job of reducing the debt, but then fiscally Conservative Harper added $160 billion to the deficit.

Yup, some people just don't seem to get it, but will continue to brag how good the Conservatives are at lower government spending.

The Martin/Chretian Liberals campaigned on a promise scrap the GST, which was broken, but unlike many Liberal broken promises, this time the budget was balanced with the combination of the new GST and downloading expenses onto provinces. They took advantage of the 7% GST that the Conservatives put in place which quite rightly replaced the manufacturers sales tax, which was a regressive tax that put Canadian industry at a competitive disadvantage to imports.

So foragefarmer please spare us the spin of how Liberals balance budgets. Of course Martin's CSL ships being registered outside Canada saved him millions in taxes while the rest of us bore the burden.

If only Trudeau 2.0 had broken his "small deficit promise" by balancing the budget instead of tripling the "promised" $10billion deficit. Canada WAS doing better than any other G7 country following the 2007 financial crisis, but with carbon taxes and projected massive deficits, we'll soon be swirling the toilet bowl too.

                            Farmranger

Haven't heard from you in a while.

So there you go again blaming everybody else for Harper's failures. Give credit where credit is due, Martin and Chretien at least had the courage to take the steps to make the hard decisions. Why didn't Con/Reformer Harper make some tough decisions rather than solely worrying about only doing what was best to get re-elected again?

You come on here saying Trudeau is over spending and Chretien's balance budgets don't count, what 's your excuse for Harper's failures. Please justify to me and all your Con/Reformer buddies here on Agriville why it was ok for fiscally responsible Harper to increase the deficit by $160 billion!!!

Why do you think Canada was doing the best of all G7 nations? Martin wouldn't allow the 5 big banks to merge nor soften the rules on mortgages like the rest of the G7 nations did with there banks. Therefore, Harper inherited a balance budget along with the 5 big banks in good operating order, along with the rest of the nation. In fact Harper stood in the House of Commons opposing what Martin had done regarding the big 5 banks requests, and he still increased the deficit by $160 billion. I thought Harper was an Economist, shows he knew nothing about what he was talking about.

Farmranger, do yourself a favour and watch the movie "To Big to Fail" you'll learn something very important.

                              Sigh

Movies are better at emotionally spinning BS, and aren't really great for teaching or informing. Example: the people mislead by "An Inconvenient <i>Truth</i>".

Try thinking about the financial crisis in 2007 like your house being on fire. Yes, you need to quickly spend money on fighting the fire, which the Cons did.

The irony of you're blaming them now for debt incurred at that time is the Libs and NDP had accused them of not spending enough. Throwing extra money into their BS pet projects would have been the equivalent of buying a new car and using the windshield wipers on it to help put out the housefire.

Given the unnecessary and massive deficit the Libs are running now, it's a good thing Harper was in charge in 2007, or we'd be paying interest on a 9 year old "Ferrari", instead of just the one-time use of a "firetruck".
