    Trudeau on BNN

Watched interview this past week. Generally agreed with things said by Trudeau, especially as regards trade. Not so happy when he touted auto industry and research, perhaps at expense and neglect of our resource industries.
See polls from U.S. which show economy as biggest concern and envirionment and greenhouse gas emission well down in list.
Democrats in U.S. may be more in tune with Trudeau and our Liberal government on this but not so much the populist support Trump movement.
Think envirionmmentalists in both countries have work cut out to satisfy us on our economy while making gains they want and not stifling trade.

Note criticism of Sask premier Brad Wall for going on offensive to promote Energy East pipeline.
High time for western Canada to speak out on Trudeau government delaying tactics.

To be fair ... Brad wall is the energy companies whipping boy.

Funny how he runs around the country for them and excuses the potash companies but I don't remember him talking about removing the fuel tax during the election.

Here's a list of things he could get money back on money losing items as opposed to pulling money out of the farm economy.

      1. Get the 80 million back from the riders for the stadium .... oops they are losing money too. 80 million.

      2. Get the money back from evraz for the jobs they didn't create. 40 million

      3. Sell the riverhurst irrigation project for what it's worth instead of the dollar the farmers are trying to steal it for. 100 million

      4. Have a look at what potash sells for locally and then look at your royalty structure.

      5. Look at infrastructure costs because of railway and grainco consolidation and look at where the mistakes are made.... then try to prevent them. That's a billion dollars.

They said nothing about the fuel tax but taking 120 million out of the farm economy won't help.

I think the tax I pay on vehicle repairs should offset the fuel tax.

Shouldn't rant about Wall ... he is an articulate guy and smart but not very forthcoming with his rural support.

I can just imagine the outrage there would be on here. if it was anyone other than Brad and Sask. party putting the tax on farm fuels.

if Notley did it , there would be farmers rioting in the streets.

It just seems to convenient for the auditor to forget reviewing the transportation hub deals and suddenly start looking for revenue 2 months after election.

I drive some pretty shitty roads.

Maybe start looking at the cause .... railway consolidation ....and the effect ....high infrastructure costs....before looking for more revenue that is poorly spent.

Thread kind of got side tracked.
Was trying to point out that, if, as polls show, number one concern of Americans is economy and economic conditions with terrorism second and envirionmental concerns farther down the list, maybe smart politics to react to these concerns.
It could be what Donald Trump is tapping into in his appeal to voters.
U.S. Democrats might reconsider cost to economy of greenhouse gas reduction.
Canadian Liberals might do the same based on what happens in States usually happens here as well.

If as a government you want the populace to accept accepta difficult change how do you do that? You create fear. That is the main message behind climate change is fear, fear of drought, fear of more frequent severe weather events, fear of flooded coastal cities, on and on.

Now a couple of facts, of the roughly 90 million barrels of oil consumed worldwide daily 38 million are consumed with on road transportation. In Canada alone there were 32538004 vehicles registered in 2014. In 2015 6933 plug in cars were sold in Canada. Yet our governments in Ontario and Alberta go after our power generation systems and how we heat our houses. I believe they do this because it is easier as there is far more government control of utilities and people like their cars and this will cost too many votes. Lawn mowers, quads and RV's all spew lots of C02, imagine what would happen if you put a carbon tax on RV's because pulling them increases your C02 output.

My point is how much oil is used generating power in Canada, not very much. Lots of natural gas. As for concern for the economy, governments try to tell you they are concerned about economic growth but by continually increasing taxes and debt the government is really only concerned about increasing the size of itself. As for climate change even Naomi Klein says it is more about income redistribution than about the environment. Have a good Sunday:-)

When the lack of equalization payments from Alberta disappear and causes serious pain to Quebec.....that's when Liberals will appreciate the Western Canada energy sector.

Until than its all unicorns, carbon taxes and singing kumbya with Al Gore, Suzuki, Trudeau and other earth muffins.
