I screwed up

Sprayed canola field with conquer and neighbours barley was up... very light breeze using bubble jet tips and booms close to ground going slow but still managed to smoke a 30ft strip about 300 yards long.


What would ya'll do in this situation??? First time I've drifted onto a field we didn't farm.

I'd go tell the guy. For only that much I think it would pass maybe next year he gets your field. A little. It happens. But it's the crazy shit with high winds that make drift go a lot farther than guys want to admit that are a problem.

.6-.7 of an acre, go offer to pay him. not big $$ most people are reasonable

Tell him there is some damage..Settle in the fall..Might come back ..some what..

Situations like that are fairly easy to solve , not big acres and you just be honest - easy to deal with most times
Nothing can be done now, wait till harvest and see what happens. But be willing to compensate for any extra weed control that may be needed - that will go a long , long way with the neighbor

I tried to use a recovery foliar on my peas that hit this morning . Gave up after 45 acres

IMO the best thing is to be forthcoming with your neighbour. I just hate it when the neighbours cows get in our crops and they never tell us even though there is visible damage. If they came clean right off the hope we would probably let it go.

Agreed, tell your neighbour. Its a small area, happens to most of us. I like to work on a debit credit system, if he drifted me i get one credit for similar drift into one of his fields in future years

The other day winds were 20km and droplets just did not want to fall even at 20psi a form of inversion I do believe. The fine, medium, course charts are too simplistic. Information on driftable fines at different pressure is sometimes difficult to find.

However, WIND is the decider every time. Some percentage of every suitable tip is drift prone.
Add volatility into the mix and sometimes its just a no go.

ado, no kidding honestly there is a guy here that sprays so stupid only by the smaller farmers and almost every year does damage to them. He keeps asking them to sell or rent him their land.
They keep telling him to f off but I guess maybe he thinks he can get it by killing their crops.

Seriously some of you want credits for drifting ?? Ummm no thanks. If you don't have insurance or can't write the check for the damage you shouldn't be in the business. Drifting chemical is like STEALING in my opinion. None of us have any idea what a neighbors financial position is, nor is it our right to assume that a little tit for tat is good enough. In my opinion Klause it goes like this. Step 1.. You know so you better make a call and apologize first
Step 2.. Explain you are man enough to own the damage and FULLY compensate whatever is neccesary
Step 3.. Contact your insurance company and put the wheels in motion if necessary.

Step 4.. Agree between both parties a mutually respected 3rd party agrologist to help assess the damage and its impact

What irks me the most is how when you try to tell a neighbor that they've drifted on to your crops or an inversion has occurred, they feel like it's a personal attack. It is not a personal attack. Accidents and mistakes are made, however manning up and settling up are how good neighbors stay as such.
