    Free Advertising...

Well, they're springing up all over the place! The seed(and other) signs, why do we allow Companies whose sole goal is to extract the most money out of us, yet leave us enough to keep us in business, free advertising by posting signs when we have a good crop along a well traveled road?

What do they pay to sponsor all the shit they do? How much is their advertising budget per year? And Producers are so neglected and dejected that they will let them stroke our egos for free!

    As the "host/parasite" relationship continues...

I dont like them because I am all thumbs and end up pressing one of them and going to their websites.
Ultimately It is a free country. You can choose to buy the advertised products or not.

Don't YOU get any benefits from a sign on your property? I thought everyone did.

One year, a certain company offered free seed for a side by side along highway with sign. Only thing they stipulated which variety on rest of quarter.
My chosen variety was sown in two directions of this field with their chosen competitor and their own in this field.
10 bushels more in either direction, 1 bushel less on that field. Expensive free seed. Their variety 1 b more than rest of that field.
My point is this. They already know the answers before they ask for somethimg. Its FREE advertising! Nothing more. Grower endorsements and highway frontage bought with free seed. Which cost me $10k.
What would Pattison Group charge for a billboard?? What is 30 years experience worth when 5 years ona rig can get you $1000/day??
After that I tell em $1000/ sign. And guess what? Not one gawdamn taker. Shuts em up fast.
All their info was gathered at licensing or before. You are just free marketing for them. If you want your own info, stipulate your own competitor variety.
Chem or fairy dust trials?? Xtra hassle at harvest and she gets lumped together and they can pound sand. Everybody else desrves to get paid and for your reach around, you get a free hat or jacket. Both *** black!!
Ill listen to their pitch, after that my retainer is a $1000. Peaceful here now......

I actually like them. Get to see what certain varieties are grown or products been used. Find it interesting. But agree they should be paying in cash to landowner.

I have noticed the signs are going up in spring instead of in late July if the crop looks respectable

I have some crops along a highway that would be worthy of a sign. But it ain't going to happen unless there is money involved, and a promise to remove it after harvest.

I can feel good driving past it knowing its mine without any acknowledgement from a "FREE" sign. Besides, it isn't my name on the sign either.

Drill manufacturers even got into the game.

When are we going to learn?

I have a variety test this year.
                      seeding part was easy .
                      harvest well we will see.
4-5 thousand in seed, I will take it.
it looks like it will be a good test.
maybe learn something in the process

Banks should put up signs too. That'd be quaint; "this guys ass is owned by Cibc". Really though those signs are the best advertising money can't buy. Field scale farm trials on any shit the companies sell is better than ass wipe they send in the mail as long as the farmer isn't peddling crap.
