Wild boars?

Well the last few years, I have seen the odd track and the odd rooting going on. But this year, I have seen piles of rooting.

I want to kill them. I want to eat them. I am wondering if any of you have a good grasp on bait to draw them in. We have un-huntable habitat, especially for nocturnal animals like boar. Too many trees, tree-lines, waterways, cattails, tall grass, and so on. Hard to hunt low to the ground critters under these conditions.

What would draw them in as bait? I am not sure how to pattern them, as there is no consistent area they prefer, just bush edges and such, but over the span of a couple miles.

Sorry I can't help you with a bait recommendation....but would you seriously consider eating an uncastrated wild boar? I could see a sow or a younger one being eaten but not a mature male.

Naw, I was using the generic term, boar, as in one of the species. I did have some delicious sausage that a friend had made out of his old breeding boars. Sausage can cover up a lot of meat sins. I would have to see the animal first. They do look kinda gross. lol

wet grain, they love it. Put in a couple of piles and let them get used to it before disturbing them. Breeding season is when it is cold, uncastrated boars are good to eat the rest of the time. Full grown are better than small ones for eating. If they are skinny, they wont be as good. You will only get one shot, use a rifle. No bows, no black powder unless you are realy good. Better to be a hunter than a gatherer.

You've got plenty of bait Freewheat - they really like sheep. They got to be quite a problem on the hill sheep farms in parts of Scotland. They kill the sheep for fun.

Son shot 2 sows and a boar left for coyotes sows were cleaned up within a week. Good 2 months before they even touched the boar.

Make some tannerite, mount it in the middle of wet grain piles. Wait a while then let the good times roll!!!!

As I understand it, I wouldnt hunt them. I would bait herd size enclosures over time. Then remote control close gate on all. Survivors get smarter. Kinda like taxpayers.
