"Old money" = paid for land... not cash.

Bucket is there anything in ag you don't complain about?

Government... railways... crop insurance. .. input companies... weather... young farmers... old farmers... old money... credit...

I don't get how people can go through life bitching about absolutely everything and everyone.

Why does it matter what the neighbour is doing. Run your own business to the best of your ability. The neighbour is doing exactly the same.

Abilities and means aren't necessarily equal between operations and that's fine too.

Not saying we don't have problems in our industry but sheesh

Had a long answer but the short answer is NO.

      But things should be questioned.

      My bitching is more questioning.
It shouldn't come off that way.

Maybe I will try a different approach.

That what I'm trying to get at. Equipment seed fert chem is all over priced. One huge wreck like 2002 and its game over for some. This is getting like the city housing problems.
Big problem is very few buying so new loans are down.
        It's all smoke and mirrors.

Wadena has dozens of drills and airseeders that NEVER planted one seed...only going to get cheaper. Rust away... curious to see if ALL that green/red iron harvests this year.
Oh ya Wheatbelt says BG production sold out for 2017!

            Bucket,
Couldn't agree more that "generational money wasn't built being stupid".
But maybe once in awhile give the younger generation some credit for trying.
Some of the progressive farms out there are making more profit in one year than others make in a life time.
Personally I think there's a heck of a lot more to life than money.

But it's sure nice to see the younger generation get involved and try hard. More power to them and all the best!

Why does farm machinery prices keep going up? Because farmers keep buying it. If they didnt, the manufacturers wouldnt produce.

              Farm economics 101:

I see the price of wheat is heading down to $5/bu, i need to go find more land, a better seed variety, book more fertilizer, and buy some bigger, more efficient machinery to compensate for the lower grain prices.

If it wasnt for all the BTOs uot there imputs would stay in line but how can you control the world unless you have more than your neibour, BIGGER and let the bank wory about the money you sat in the game with. And it does mater what your neibour doesa because if he persists in patronizing the imp cos we all have to anti up to stay in the game, And thanks harper and co for removing the limit on insurance payments now you can keep getting biger, its enough to give a dogs ass heartburn listining to you poorr bastards only farming 5/10,thousand acres, and complaning .

As long as it all get paid for the same way as the rest of us...it's all good.

Remember 8 cents lentils .... there were never 6 million acres in the ground then.

                  Just saying.

I have alot of respect for most of the producers in my area. The ones who survived the eighties now have either retired with money or have sons who are running some pretty tight ships from what I can tell. The only one that I am aware of that had a hair cut was a young gun with investors who got ahead of himself and the weather turned against him but he cut back and kept going. There are operations in my area who have survived hell and high water and will continue to do so all be it at times with some government assistance. I'm sure these types of producers are the majority on the prairies.
