Klause ? cut mo/bail wed Ive been haying for 50 yr and never seen that hapen until they started silage bailing. If you are using chemical preservitave how much a bail, probably 20 yr ago I looked into that and then it was over $5/ bail only dairy farmers could afford it. What is a bail? 600/1100/1400. A lot more informative to quote by the #

Cutting on Monday and baling on Wednesday, while on June 26 you started a thread that stated the rain won't stop. I guess the rain really wasn't that bad and the weather has improved.

There is hay everywhere this year, not sure how your "off grade" ends up in the "premium cattle market". Cattle farmers are the most frugal shoppers out there.

          Good luck Klause,
Did a lot of hay in the past - quality is what will keep your customers coming back.
Love the debit/credit card idea, getting paid in the past was always the challenge.
Glad to see you being creative.

Definitely a few holes in the story. Good luck! Your gonna need it some years. U must have no kids. Haying sucks some summers when they wanna go to the lake or on a trip and your stuck waiting on the weather.

Before 9/11, we loved the hay market. The Reserve just across the line has a lot of horses and some cattle and was a willing market for decent hay. They always paid cash. The margins selling hay was great.

Since 9/11 Homeland Security made crossing the "Medicine Line" too much of a hassle for a few loads of hay.

I agree with Klause on pricing hay. Not overcharging but offering decent hay every year for a decent price creates the win win.

Horse, we've been making 3 day hay since I was 3 years old and Dad cut & baled square bales.

Crimp it hard, it's never been a trouble getting it dry.

Premium cattle market.... Think about this. We're an hour from Saskatoon. We are in the city constantly, there's lots of hobby/acreage/small farms. There's lots of "sustainable farms". There's lots without loader tractors that need them delivered, stacked.

                Those are "premium cattle markets".

I'm not going to post names and numbers on here... wouldn't make business sense now would it

Another market is cowboy clubs that feed stock for competitions... Doesn't have to be the best feed in the world, but you have to be reliable.

Hey Klause, not saying you cant do 3 day hay but you need the perfect conditions for that. If the stars line up just right it is fun making hay but with humidity and lack of wind/sun it can take awhile. If you have a good swath it is harder as well. You must have a better forecast than we do down south here as it calls for rain/thunderstorms every other day for the next 10 days. Gonna be a nightmare to put up good hay.

In the "Ethelbert swamp" lol where the water table was so high you couldn't drive tractors or graze cows. I like your youthful enthusiasm Klause and wish you well with your innovative marketing. Look forward to seeing your results after 5 years of being in the hay business where weather is even more a factor than grain farming.

Don't you use an acid product for dry hay and the inoculant for silage?
