Keeping in mind the SPE is based on average prices for October, here are some thoughts on likely payouts.
Wheat - Way in the money. Payouts likely in the $40 to $50/tonne range.
Canola - No payout - November WCE futures well above the $321/t it would take to trigger.
Barley - Too close to call but if market stays where it is today, would pay. Similar comments oats, rye, triticale.
Flaxseed - No payout.
Feed peas - Tight will depend on next two weeks.
Other crops - Desi chickpeas - tight. Kabuli chickpeas - no payout. Yellow mustard - payout. Brown/oriental - no payout.
I will look forward to thoughts on the SPE program over the coming winter.
