    cwb elections

is Rod Flaman seeking re-election to the CWB board,
when he is also running for the federal Liberals?

    #2
I think this is Rod's second term so he is not able to run. A couple other directors are in the same situation.

Are you sure that there will be a CWB around to have an election for? This government is striving mightily to kill the "Golden Goose" so that the turkeys will have their way as they want no part of it.

I found out I got the terms wrong. A CWB director can stand for 3 terms. Depending on other things, Rod can run again.

Are these the same turkeys that ate the CROW?

Are you referring to the Liberal government? They are the ones that changed the Crow.

              No.

More to those that were doing the lobbying of the Gov't. Now, that could be the same people that Wilagro is refuring to, you would have to ask them.

Wasn't the eating of the CROW, a giant leap forward for Western Canadian farmers? Railways are now our friends aren't they? Competition is what drives the market, isn't it? Look at lecricity deregualation, aren't you thrilled?

I have a difficult time understanding how some of you socialists think. (perhaps lack of thinking) Prior to the abolition of the crow, grain movement practically came to a standstill. You cannot force someone to do something for less than market value. Burbert, if the gov't forced you to grow wheat for $3.00/bu into pertuity, how much wheat would you grow before you found other alternatives? That is the problem we are having with the CWB. The alternatives for some farmers are better than others. I for one am not that fortunate.

lesm, Nobody was forcing the railways to do anything. The railways took on a job in exchange for Canada giving them wealth beyond your average pirates dreams. The trouble started when the railways found they could make even more money by neglecting the original terms of the agrement.

We as taxpayers flogged money at them in an effort to get them to comply, and when that didn't work we gave them the right to write their own check. I was just reading the other day about CN complaining about the re-regulation of the industry with charges being imposed from outside on them.

Oddly enough there was no mention of their having charged farmers three times what they deserved for grain car maintenance. Yaah the rail companies are my friends.

Good points "tower". So many "new" farmers don't realize how the railway companies manipulated things over the years...and the "old" farmers needed to be reminded as well.

Railway companies are not our friends and never have been.

I wonder how many people remember the driving force for change and who was behind this driving force.
Not all farmers, maybe not even majority agreed. However we all have to live with the outcome. This change has cost our industry dearly and also the country as a whole through our highways, small farms and communities.
