    CWB board governance

I asked this question once before and we got off
topic: is Rod Flaman running in the CWB election
this fall when he is running for the liberals at the
same time? It seems so - doesn't anyone else think
this is wrong? Have we decided to let the liberal
party make our marketing decisions for us? I don't
understand why he's at the board table right now
when he is a nominated candidate - does he tell the
Liberals board business? Does he tell the board
liberal strategy? How could he not? Is this what
farmers want? When an RCMP officer campaigns for
a political party he takes a leave from the force -
    how is this any different?

Anyone with a sense of dignity and an ounce of ethics would have either resigned or asked for a leave of absence on announcing their candidacy.

Especially considering the ridiculous antics that have come out of that board room over the past couple of years.

My question is what kind of direction is coming down from the big party down east to try and keep our eyes out of what has happened in the past.

Which makes me ask, How can it be that we have seen no access to information requests from anyone about the cwb? Does no organization out there feel some sort of obligation to ask?

Chatney, I believe, is not running for CWB re-election. Nor, for a federal party.

              Look people - its optics.

Flaman's political aspirations just look bad while he is a board member. Its that simple. And its detracting from the real issues.

Real issues like how will the cwb ensure it has grain for its customers when its has no pricing options that reflect their asking prices or the world wheat price. Its dry in the south and the cwb is counting on a bumper crop with 8.5 wheat when flax is 16, peas are 9.5, canola will be 14, etc, etc.

With their heads in the sand the cwb will put itself out of business.

Maybe if Jim had planned the get together for the board room of the cwb it might have made it questionable.

However, considering that he has maintained his desire for freedom of choice in marketing his own grain from the beginning, and that it was not organized with cwb dollars makes it just a tiny bit different.

Freedom, transparency, and ethical behavior just make you guys squirm hey?

Seems funny that in Jim's 10th and final year as a CWB Director, he as been brought forth before the disciplinary committee, and severely chastised for his voicing the views and wishes of his district, yet Flaman gets away with anything due to the control of the board by the monopolists.
This board changed its own code of ethics to allow Rod to stay put and run promote himself as a political candidate at the same time. His monopolistic counter parts regularly break board room confidence which goes against any corporate governance model in the free world.
Yet Rod in last weeks Western Producer has called upon Chair Ritter to bring Jim infront of the discipline committee once more. Where is this committee when the monopolists break the rules? or theoretically break the rules?
Lets hope this fall we can start anew, get a clean slate of progressive open minded producers elected that will turn this train wreak around and create an entity that can work for all, in an open market system.
                  Erik

                    stubblejumper,

Chatenay paid his own way to the Weyburn meeting, as a farmer.

It is the single desk directors who changed the Code of Conduct to allow money from the pooling accounts to be used to send staff and Directors to Liberal fundraisers.

Chatenay didn't eye up other people's cash as a slush fund for his hankerings.

Single deskers drool for the green-bucks in the pools. It is what they do best.

And Flaman wholly supported snitching farmer's pooling money to go to Liberals.

And he'd probably do it again, now that he's got the hang of it.

                    And again.

                    And again

                    And again
