Government considering minor wheat bill changes
The Federal Government says it will consider some minor changes to its wheat legislation, proposed by the Liberals.
The Liberal Party wants individuals to be allowed to export their own wheat in bulk.
It also wants to relax the regulations which ensure companies give each other fair access to their port facilities.
Western Australian Liberal MP, Wilson Tuckey, says getting the Competition and Consumer Commission involved is an unnecessary complication.
"We think that the original provision of the bill, which puts the oversight in the hands of Wheat Export Australia, should be sufficient until there is evidence of breaches, at which time there should be a provision for the minister then to refer matters to the ACCC."
