Do you have a CWB Weather Station?

I note on the CWB's press release today that some farmers have CWB weather stations on their farms:

"It is fed with information from a farmer’s own weather stations and hundreds of others recently installed on farms, at Pioneer grain elevators and at agri-retail outlets across Western Canada."

How many on Agvl have one installed?

" the The weather stations cost $900 for farmers who wish to be put on a waiting list for CWB installation."

Why just Pioneer?

Did ALL installatiions cost $900..those already installed and Pioneer for example?

No. I have a Davis weather station (same as they sell), and I was interested in joining the network until I found out it was going to cost me $100 a year for the privilege of suppling them with my data. Ya right.

I got one of there systems and I am fairly happy with i so far. I can honestly say that it is one of the few things associated with the CWB that I am happy with.

The only reason I wanted a system is that I am away from the farm a lot and it is nice to see weather I should be at the farm working or not to bother because of rain etc... The weather bug site itself doesnt seem to be that well run(just from looking at your wundermap site). I was up on the interactive map for a couple of weeks, then it dissapeared along with all the others in the area.

Bayer is setting up the exact same system, seems to be a little redundant to me, they gave my neighbour one 2 miles away and if I would have known that I would have saved myself the $900.

Heard a presentation from the Bayer rep last month about the Weatherbug network. They were charging farmers $1500 (cash or program rebates) for a setup or else $500 per year subscription to the service. With a subscription, you can access the data from any of the Weatherbugs in North America. So if you really want to find out how much it rained in Cedar Rapids, Iowa you can find out, Or if your relative in Outback, SK says they have only had 11 mm of rain this season, you can check all the Weatherbugs in his area and call his bluff!

Interesting that the CWB is selling access to the system for much less than Bayer is. As far as I know, it is the same system, only a different organizaqtion giving you your system access password.

just had a cwb site put up I'm looking forward to the record keeping of wind speed and direction I believe it will really help with spraying,
