The latest drought maps are not looking good for a very big area now. The crop in 2/3 of Sask needs a big rain and very soon. Crops in some areas are been taken out north and east of here all the way to P.A. and Melfort. For some next years crop will only be a dream when inputs continue to rise.

And this surprises anyone. Wait till the cwb leeches get back to work after their extended long weekend and find ou the crop is already 2/3 of what they were expecting 2 weeks ago. Good thing burnett's on top of things. This crop has been sold at low prices and we will suffer because of it.

Doom and gloom, thats what the market needs now, to drive prices. Dry, dry another short crop, its all the fault of poor planning at the CWB! Warmer drier weather, shorter crops, use more inputs to get rich quick. The open market will dictate what is going to happen. Lots and lots and lots of people are being crushed by the input prices, they just don't know it yet. After all it is July, Summer vacation is upon us, lets party, party, today, who cares about tomorrow?

Furrowtickler,
1 week of 30 degree C... and there will be panic... unless we have a miracle...
Can we go 2 years... on reserve through July??? I didn't think it would work last year... and we still had a crop!
1 inch of rain... would make a huge amount of grain... in the next week!

Ok Burbert
Its 30c outside and no rain in sight. If I was on the open market I would not be pricing a kernel of grain right now. Sure if it rains maybe take a position on some 9.50 peas but I would not be commiting tonnes to flexpro without the guarantee of a price which it fails to do.
And do I think the cwb has something to do with the returns on my farm - you bet. Do I think they are concerned with the current weather - not at all - look at our current pros and the prices in North Dakota for new crop and the cwb is losing our shirts. Durum prices are even more dismal when you consider those so called dumb americans that sold their durum for 7 bucks last year are getting 14 -15 this year. The cwb has sold a good portion of the 08-09 which is why the pros for new crop are disappointing.

Tell me about it. With only about 3/8" rain since mid april spread out over a couple of weeks in june, I have given up on even an average crop. This 30 weather has allowed my stunted canola to flower at least, so maybe it will not freeze again. I will be combining winter wheat in less than a month, and that may be my best yeilder. An inch of rain this week sometime will still help the canola and may allow me to break even, but I've pretty much wrote this year off. I guess ten years ago before I got into no-till, it would be really ugly.
