      Arithmetic

      #ONE

Seeding 4000 acres for 40 years.
      Input costs
      Ferilizer costs
      Gasoline costs
Banker costs (notice I didn't just say bank)

Results: Profits usually come from increased production. Soil is being used and some depletion. Some twitchiness in right eye caused by scarey weather days. Input costs unpredictable. If you buy enough, a job with the chem/fert companies is possible and enhances bottom line.

      # TWO
Seeding 2000 acres for 40 years, and keep 2000 acres in forage reserve.
      Gasoline costs
Banker wonders if you are stealing fertilizer somewhere/asks you to borrow money for redoing your house, a new car, a trip,

Results: Profits usually from increased prices you set. Only half the soil is being used and some depletion. Some twitchtiness in right eye caused by scarey weather days.

Input cost amounts to the seed for nitrogen-fixating rotational forage crops (which are often sold as seed) and the cost of cleaning the chicken coop. In the last few years, there are some soil enrichers that are quite good, and they keep appearing on the market, that will address soil depletion.

Two different systems. Neither are virtual. Neither is the arithmetic.

Just setting it all up for a Hutterite sale one day and I am done with this game. Make more money developing property at lakes etc than one will ever make farming and feeding people but I love the thrill of trying to win and farming is a tough one to conquer. Back to the lake its been a nice chat.
But why not think of a different way. Yours vs mine. still gets to profit.
But Big Canola crop and Huge feed wheat crop equals making Input suppliers really happy and farmers shaking in his boots.

Yea the advance is available but when you loose 1,000,000.00 (02,03,04) and get nothing from casip your using the advance for other things. So yes its a good program.
Also 100000 wont buy me much in line of Fert

Yes I explain that money was lost but No tax is paid against that loss when one makes money. And I was explaining in general whats happening to farmers. CASIP didn't work and neither did Sask Crop insurance etc. That's what the post explaining.
Look at your income tax see how good you did in 02 from frost and 04 and look at what you got from CASIP and Crop insurance ( If you farm in Albert don't look your not in real world)

We better drop this. You have excuse after excuse.

Instead of just calling a spaid a spaid, and admit you like to exagerate.

Yes Yes Yes Exaggerating loss but on most farms its not exaggeration their loosing money due to poor planning and management. Income tax shows whats happening and most miss top price and don't get best price on inputs etc.
Dropped for today off to lake.

What are the odds of 9 dollar peas when we are all doing the same thing to reduce N costs? Peas hit 10 dollars becuase other crops where high, not because the customer "had to have them"

Actually Dave I believe peas have plenty of export potential as long as India and China keep opening their doors to us, the local Pioneer was shipping 100 cars per week there until farmers quit delivering because there was none left. If they have enough product of their own these doors could close just as fast as they opened as they both protect their farmers with import duties, and we could be back to not likely 3.5 dollar peas but 6 IMO. Now do some math no phosphate, no N, no S. Peas are now becoming a lower risk crop although some of my nieghbours still think peas are high risk because of crop failure. I grew over 1/3 of my acres to peas this year, I don't think I can do that every year. Now for next year I will have to purchase more acres of fertilizer at quite a bit higher cost.

Gee didn't India or Pakistan or Turkey have a shortage.
Americans and Europeans are running to Soy and Canola and Wheat lets run another way Fill Oats Barley Lentils Peas Chickpeas etc market.
Why not run in a different direction and see what happens. you can lock in Prices why not.
Still better 6.00 peas at 45 than 45 canola at 14. minus inputs to grow each crop.
