    Producer Car Fees

Does anyone know how many producer cars of grain travel to British Columbia in a year?

As of August 1, 2008, the BC government's carbon tax will be adding $7.80 (CN) or $11.25 (CP) per car to the cost of producer cars entering BC.

I will assume, as with any other costs on grain in Canada, that this tax will have to be paid by grain producers in the designated area.

Will this tax be tax deductible?

Silverback, it looks like the carbon-tax levy will be charged to you as part of your total freight bill. I said 'it looks like' because I couldn't find anyone who would say so definitively. If I hear that it won't be charged to you as part of your bill, I'll post it here.

Ah yes, I see it now.

However, who will pay that tax on grain cars entering BC that are not producer cars? Accredited agents or the CWB?

I will assume until told otherwise that the tax will be passed on to the grain producers.

How many cars would that be? Anyone?

Maybe have to avoid going through BC.

How about grain trains to North Portal to hitch up on the old Potash line, which can than travel to port on the US side.

Won't take more than a few decades for the ports to notice grain is bypassing BC, right? LOL
