    CWB Election 2008

    Chaffmeister/Adam Smith... et el;

I have heard time and time again... that we must change the CWB from within...

    Guess WHAT?

It will not happen... even if 5 of 5 CWB directors are market choice supporters.

    WHY?

CWB legal dept has ruled the legislation (CWB Act)MUST be changed... to end the 'single desk'.

THE CWB elections have always been a side show... with smoke and mirrors... the main attraction.

CWB Directors would be in the same legal problem... as the Feds are now... if the 'Freinds of the CWB' did not agree with actions taken by the newly elected CWB BOD.

THIS is A STALE MATE... with the CWB the winner... and 'designated area' graingrowers locked into $$$ billions of losses.

Multi-national food company profits have never been better... in the grain sector... and the Fed reaps the increased income tax this brings Revenue Canada. WIN WIN.

Lets keep on being distracted by the dog and pony show... it is OH SO ENTERTAINING... the rest of the world is laughing... at we 'designated area' grain growers! CHEAP food/grains... the one result the CWB can deliver!

    Tom4CWB,

The single directors had NO difficulty voting to give export licenses to DA feed mills, for unlimited amounts of feed grains, all of which bypasses both Board pooling and Board marketing so they have set a precedent. The size of the DA remains the same.

Future Directors can follow that precedent, and vote to issue export licenses to all DA farmer feed wheat and barley applicants.

I'm sure many will think this is nuts. I have the same opinion of the CWB as many here and was frustrated just as you have been. My solution (not for everyone of course) was to not participate any longer. I haven't held a permit book for 6 years now and low and behold I am still Grain farming and don't look any less prosperous because of it. There are alternatives to Board crops and enough of them to make good agronomic rotations and a profit.

        Parsley,

I note that all exemptions from normal 'designated area' export licences... were done BEFORE the 1998 change to the CWB Act...

Any major marketing changes... will have CWB legal council recomendations to have a producer 'vote'... before they are implemented.

We need to get rid of the present CWB Act... to reform the CWB.

The CWB granted a tonnage "exemption" for wheat just a few years ago, did they not, Tom4cwb?

          No act change took place.

          btw,
You and I have no idea what is going on behind producers' backs. At the present, for example, it is theoretically possible that an in-camera Board motion allows each and every card-carrying Liberal automatically be granted an export license, without the buyback.

How would you know? The books are not open.
