    Thanks Kodiak for clarifiing your position.

    with both a looming federal election and cwb director elections coming this fall,

    now is not the time to be running away from the politics of grain.

    now is the time to make sure our voices are heard and we must demand real actions from those who seek positions of power and purport to support open grain marketing in western Canada.

        AdamSmith, I was the first to bring up the term "politics" in the previous topic thread I'm sure your referring to. You know I haven't been here too long, but in the two years reading and occasionally posting here I can only remember one or two posters claiming not to grow grains that fall under the CWB. If most of us posting here(Commodity Marketing), are growing wheat, durum and/or malt barley, I'd like to know why we can't discuss how, when and where we're gonna market these raw products! All I'm saying is that most of us are harvesting 'board' grains right now, and I'm interested in discussing with others what strategies are best to deal with unhedged production without politics taking over the thread. I'm sure that producers here aren't just pooling their grain, so are they holding till later in the year hoping for an improved basis (or holding till after the Oct14 election) or are they just accepting the CWB basis and taking a fixed price for what they can get, or maybe an EPO, but at what percentage?
        I never suggested that a discussion about Ag politics/CWB shouldn't happen, nor did I suggest it be stifled in anyway. I don't support the board, nor did I vote for dual marketing and I've never posted anything in support of the board! I did suggest that if posters broke the rules of the 'Community'(maybe something considered liable) that a ban might be imposed (which some have since have admitted being at some point).
        There's an old saying around the prairies which I'm sure you know, "Wheat is two percent chaff and ninety eight percent politics" or another, "You can separate the chaff from the wheat, but not the politics"
        AdamSmith, I predict the board will be toast by next crop year!

            boarderbloke;

            I seem to remember... 10 years ago... someone predicting the same as you just did... and guess what!

            THE CWB IS STILL HERE... IN ALL THE GLORY... WITH A BASIS 10 TIMES MORE ABUSIVE... THAN 10 YEARS AGO!

            Do you reallly think growers are mad enough... and thinned out enough... to turf them?

              I think we'll have a majority gov't after the election this fall and that will change everything. The Mulroney gov't was too big city and too much from Quebec to care about rural western concerns. And yes, the older crowd that has clung so tight to the CWB is thinning out.
