The magnet idea is good but we have had fingers from the header drum go through the combine and fire throgh the engine compartment.

Knock on wood, we've been pretty lucky so far(other than the weather). Have to replace an alternator on the old 9600 this morning but that's pretty minor and something that seems to need doing every couple of years anyways.
Had to do a major re-wiring job on the swather which cost us half a day, but I did it myself so we were only out the time.
Got dinged pretty good on an electrical one this spring on my 4wd when the air conditioner fan conked out. JD mechanic came out 3 times replaced all sorts of stuff(that I couldn't return after) and in the end it was just a broken wire. Final bill was $800. I complained and they knocked a couple of hundred off the bill but geez those are the kind of repairs that get a guy ticked off. Call out the so called expert because you're in a hurray, it takes him forever to figure a simple thing out, and then you get charged through the nose for doing it. Its almost like dealing with the Wheat Board, except that in this case I can always do it myself or actually find myself a decent mechanic.

Fran I have a fix for your alternator. I had the same trouble as soon as the alternator was off warante it would die. I cut apart a used oil filter welded a ends on so I could attach it to the intake on the alternator and I blow it out with air from time to time and presto 6 years no alt. trouble. My alt. is still like brand new clean inside. It is the dirt ruining the alt.
