Cottonpicken - please note that Mr. Gust is running on a ticket to give producers a choice in marketing their grain. Therefore, if elected and he/others succeed in eliminating the monopoly, you won't need to rely on someone else (and their knowledge of your list of questions) to market your grain. The beauty of choice is your choice to do it yourself or find an individual or organization that earns your trust to let them market your grain.

PS.
I would demand an answer to Cottonpicken's questions by all those candidates that are in favour of maintaining the monopoly because as Cottompicken and bucket point out, if you're going to market my grain, what is your level of knowledge, understanding and what are your credentials that give me comfort to market my grain.
The past list of board members that were strong supporters of the monopoly had one level of understanding only......maintain the monopoly at all cost.

YA YA
The fight comment is an old phlisofical one.
The drinking comment put me in hard ball mode.
Goodale the gooddamn fool was the one who sold canadas goold reserves at bargin basement prices.(i think)
No i've never used so many o's in one sentence.
Good on you Gust for putting in the time and effort for something you beleive in.More than i can say.
My beleive is the cwb should be choice, should adapt and overcome, should expand, profit and capitalize off smaller weaker entities.
But i doubt a board of directors that cant answer bond market stuff will make this so.
10 proffesional farmers swimming in a sea off sharks.
I got a plumbing problem i guess i'll call my dentist.
GET IT?

jensend;
"check the oecd numbers to see the level of subsidization"...
I Have the many studies that prove the CWB kept the price of feed grains low... some of the lowest anywhere in the western world... because the CWB Single desk prevented arbitrage with world market prices.
Human consumption...feed... the CWB export restrictions have a massive effect on non-board grains as well... as they compete with CWB (substandard prices) for crop area and competitive price structure.
Take a look at the huge benefit the Aussies have gained... Agstar77 your fear mongering is tiring...
C.P.; CWB directors need only to provide decent choices...growers and their families need to be on top of the market... to decide WHEN TO SELL... not the CWB. The CWB Directors are responsible to properly create and maintain a procedural system...to match buyers and sellers... at the least cost possible... and sell the grain offered to them in an orderly manner.
No ONE can predict the market and where it will go... we can access and decide probabilities... and what risks our farms can afford... because of this...my farms sales decisions should NOT be the decision of CWB Directors!

Bucket -- to answer your questions: sorry for the late reply
1) The durum prices They will likely get crushed by those that sold off the combine for $14.00 esp when you consider those farmers have all their money.
that's the deal with the single desk they are so big they move markets, while farmers can sell their entire crop at one price(not that that's good risk management either)
2) Yes, I think ALL farmers/companies should get free export licenses - I've got nothing against organic, but they shouldn't be getting special deals.
3) The CWB should be offering a spot price on a year-round basis. Anybody who wants to be in the pool should have to sign up tonnage by a certain date -- I'd say October 31 -- but the CWB should be able to offer spot and forward price contracts outside the pool every day of the year. I've asked management at combine to customer conferences and every CWB meeting I've been at about basis. Not once did I get the same answer If the Board's got a good risk management program, there's no reason we shouldn't be seeing the world price every day.
4) Staff numbers? I'm not going to say they need more or less. All I can say is that every employee who generates more value then they cost should stay. Those who don't, shouldn't.. End of story. Whatever it takes to be competitive.
We would have to cut out the administration of the cash advances though -- too much info from farmer sales to be held inside to allow proper confidentiality. It's a federal program anyway.
5) Fusarium blending? Every farmer should get paid what their wheat is worth, and only an open market can figure that out properly. Actually, I feel one of the first problems we need to tackle is why we're still getting shorted because of HVK downgrading on spring wheat when all the Grain Commission scientific tests say it doesn't affect milling quality.

Just playing devil's advocate for a while mr. Gust.
The durum thing - are they or will they be doing a good job for western canada?
I think the cwb has done a dismal job on durum. And will continue to do so.Its called incompetence.
BTW should farmers sign cwb contracts until the election is over. I am hestitant to sign because they may be gone Oct15

Wow I get you and parsley to play devils advocates, with all the friends of the CWB out there too.
My opinion is unless you want to hold on to grain until Aug 1st. you might as well move it, but waiting until after election is over can't hurt. I have little confidence in the Feds. they have had plenty of opportunity to make meaningful changes over the past three years I won't hold my breath on the CWB.
This is the main reason I'm running they have shown that they have little stomach for wheat and durum until after meaningless divisive plebiscites.
My intention is that CWB II will earn your grain with the best bid out there, or at the very least have a competitive price and then pay out patronage at year end.
