Last week it was majority or minority, this week it's Steve or Stephan. Just goes to remind Steve , be careful what you ask for. Maybe he should have waited till his fixed election date. Rightly or wrongly ruling gov get's blame for bad news. Jimbo Flaherty news conference just now, he looks haggard, I guess the banks told him who's your daddy.

public opinion polls are fun to watch, when you guy is doing good, they make you feel good, and when your guy is doing poorly, well you get all bent out of shape.

It's almost impossible for the Libs to get a minority. There just aren't enough ridings within their grasp to overtake the consevatives.
Sure they may be polling better, but if this just means bigger margins of victory in ridings they were going to win anyway, not much will change.
My prediction
For sure another Harper minority,
and the majority is still within reach, depending on how the three left wing votes (Lib,NDP,Green) split.
The cons can win alot of seats with just 30% of the vote in those ridings.

I, too, am a little disappointed to hear the poll results of late. Seems the conservatives have to beat the mainstream media as well as the 4 opposition parties. The NCC has it right here:
Chicken Little: The Economic Sky is Falling!!!
I continue to watch the media coverage of the current international banking crisis with absolute amazement. To say that our national media is being irresponsible in their reporting of the facts would be a massive understatement. This Chicken Little attitude, that the economic sky is falling, has resulted in some panic nation wide.
Like many other Canadians, I have seen a significant drop in the value of my personal investments and I am not looking forward to what the real carnage will be. But I do not believe that the sky is falling. Sure there is reason for worry, but if the mainstream media would simply report of few of the following facts I believe the panic among Canadians would ease.
A responsible media would report that:
(1)The World Economic Forum ranks Canada’s banking system is as the strongest in the world;
(2)Only 5% of Canadian mortgages are considered “high risk.” In comparison, over 50% of mortgages in the U.S. fall into that category;
(3)The Canadian government is running a surplus;
(4)Any new tax will be a detriment to the Canadian economy; and
(5)No Prime Minister has the power to control the stock market.
Early in this election campaign Prime Minister Stephen Harper was heavily criticized by the media for stating: “the oppositions parties were hoping for a recession for the sole purpose of political gain.” As we near election day I do believe that statement rings true. And I am not the only one taking a second look at Harper’s statement, Andrew Coyne has written a great blog on this exact issue. Click here to read his well thought out arguments.
Chicken Little arguments aside, I do believe the media could play a responsible role in this time of economic uncertainty by simply putting their bias aside and reporting on the facts. There is much that could be done by the media to help reduce the fears of many Canadians.
I for one am not holding my breath for the media to do the right thing. Nor am I expecting the sky to fall!

You can bet that the election was called early - nixing Steve's own 4 year law- Because the surplus is gone.
He couldn't wait till the bad news came out and risk running on his overspending record.

Let's put this Harper bypassing the fixed election date in perspective. For those that lack understanding, any government motion tagged as a "non-confidence" vote which is defeated automatically triggers an election regardless of the fixed election date. This also includes a defeat of the budget. Therefore, in a minority government, the liberals, NDP or Bloc also have the ability to trigger an election prior to the fixed election date. Did they? NO but had the politcal climate been in their benefit, they would have. The hypocracy of the opposition and those spouting about Harper calling an election continues to amaze me.

Why don't the liberals talk about the financial shape of their own party. It was in good shape till they were caught dipping into general revenues. If the party can't mange it's own financial affairs what gives you confidence they can run the country. You know things are bad when you have to pull Paul Martin out of the closet

Steve even said Prime Minister Stephan Dion three times in his speech today, Talk about freudian. What a turn Harper warning Canadians about Dion. This weekend will tell the tale. Expect Harper to throw everything along with kitchen sink at Dion. Desparate times call for desparate measures.
