Operating debt free (not operating loan) may be a privelege of someone who is 50 plus, been in the business of farming for 20 years plus and has no kids coming back. A 30 year old who is entering the business or someone who is wanting to grow will have a different story.

Don't know if anyone is a landlord here but I expect they want to be paid on the agreed date. Don't expect that these landlords care whether the money is money in the bank or from an operating loan.

To the original thought, credit is the fuel that drives the whole supply chain. Every grain company (including the CWB) borrows money to finance inventory. Every machine dealer, input supplier borrows money. Companies that process grain into things like flour, ethanol, beer, likely borrows money. Access to money into today's world and perhaps cost of money should be major concerns. Farmers are only part of this process.

I'd agree charliep, that credit is basic to agriculture. And the question was if credit will seize up. Maybe the USA just plain had their own operating loan from China cut off. Both dollar value and spending habits should reflect that. New Zealand's certainly did. They couldn't pay their civil servants. Pumping trillions of tax money in, should grease at least one printing press, should it not?

      There is something missing.

I would use the term economic warfare.
All war is based around econmics.

The house of saud could be involved, and there is already wide spread use of counterfit supper notes from the russians and koreans.

The real achilles heal is the day oil becomes priced in something other than dollars. The demand for dollars will drop-this will be huge.

Our banks don't have a problem, that's why Jimbo gave them 25Billion to prop up their mortgages and that's why they wouldn't pass on the interest reduction. The Americans are asking Canadian Banks to buy up U.S. bank debt. The U.S. dollar has been rising because of weakness in Euro and other currencies as American citizens rush to repatriate their foreign holdings, poor deluded fools ! The American debt will have to be reckoned with. Expect the Canadian dollar to rise because of our better balance sheet. The economic crunch may force the U.S. to get out of Iraq.

this is more the kind of pressure russia is using against the americans. they like to keep tension up and keep the americans guessing as to what's next. china prefers economic tension and the saudi's just like to remind the americans how much they need the oil.

Russian warships call in Libya: report

A warship of the Russian northern fleet bound for Venezuela ...

Russian warships bound for Venezuela, including the nuclear-powered cruiser Pyotr Veliky (Peter the Great), put in Saturday at the Libyan port of Tripoli for refuelling.
Only one ship was able to enter the port, which is not deep enough to allow the other vessels to dock, an AFP correspondent at the scene said.

Two other warships of the Russian northern fleet could be seen in the distance, the correspondent reported.

Earlier, Russian naval spokesman Igor Dygalo said the warships also included the anti-submarine destroyer Admiral Chabanenko and support vessels, Interfax news agency reported.

The frigate Neustrashimiy (Intrepid), which left Russia two weeks ago bound for Somalia where it was to join in fighting piracy in the region, was also among the vessels that put into Tripoli on Saturday, Interfax said.

Dygalo said the port call was scheduled to be completed on Monday.

The ships would then resume manoeuvres at unspecified locations in the Mediterranean Sea before heading to Venezuela for joint naval exercises next month, he said.

Russia and Venezuela announced their joint military exercises last month amid high tensions between Moscow and Washington and Russian irritation at the presence of US warships near Russian waters in the Black Sea.

The planned Russian naval presence in what the United States has long regarded as its "backyard" would be unprecedented since the Cold War, but Washington has mocked the move as nothing more than symbolic muscle-flexing.

Russia-US tensions spiked in August during the conflict in Georgia. Russia has repeatedly criticised the United States for using navy ships for what Washington has said was delivery of humanitarian aid to ally Georgia.

The Russian-Venezuelan naval exercises were scheduled to take place near the end of November.

recesion - deprecesion - war, sound familiar? Certain events that will occur have been planned for a while. U.S. led stupidity has led to world wide anger anc losses of vast amounts of fake wealth.

With apologies in advance to those who might be sensitive to a wee bit of vulgarity.......

But this guy, in a very humorous way, has the situation figured out.

Care to rid yourself of some of your "bad assets?" Here's the place!

                    A special apology to Parsley.

I'm sure you will point out that a pile with a name that has a literal meaning, rather than a metaphorical one, is not a "bad asset".

But don't discount the idea that a government somewhere would still pay you more than its worth.

                    Maybe a Dion government?

Kodiak, you could 'write' me into anything. You should be writing for Dion, you'd be his best hope to 'write' Quebecers into voting Liberal. Hah! Pars
