    Goodale's motives

So Ralphie Goodale puts forward a private member's bill to reform the powers of the cwb.

I understand he has probably been working on this a long time, but the timing about worrying about the cwb instead of the general farm population and its weather problems indicates he is out of touch. The cwb may have nothing to do this year anyway.

Why not use his time to ask the feds, on behalf of saskatchewan, for an adhoc payment considering the severity of the 1 in a 100 year rain event, that essentially lasted for the seeding months of may and june.

If the feds acted as quick as they have for the auto industry and bombardier with the consideration of the magnitude of the problem, the US would not likely challenge the aid they could give.

And more than likely the US is going to be helping farmers out as well. I don't believe the rain stops at the 49th parallel.

Anyway, back to why Goodale won't leave this alone. Is Martin behind this or is there some board position goodale is eyeing up?

Seems like old Ralph has changed his tune over the years. Back when he was young and working with Otto Lang they were trying to reduce the CWB's powers. I think it was on their watch that off-board feed grains got going as well as dropping restrictions on the interprovincial movement of wheat.

Wow our MP from Wascana Ralphy boy just proves why the Liberanos will never get any more seats in west. Ralph its raining and raining and raining. The CWB is not on farmers minds. Here is a hint ralphy boy you haven't had to water your grass in Regina since spring. Hm. But they keep trying to beat a dead horse. Now if they said they would end it before the Conservatives who knows. But right now Ralphy boy is way out of touch with rural saskatchewan.

Know it is not the top of the mind issue but would be interesting that one of the non elected directors is the chief executive officer. Might be a good step to remove the CEO from the B of D and keep that individual focused on operations issues.

bucket - It was Goodale who set up the CWB governace structure.

              Thanks charlie

I thought is was. Its interesting that all he is doing by this is changing the voting structure at the board of directors.

The majority is swinging to an open market and by reducing and changing so that the board votes on two of the unelected directors, goodale figures he can keep a single desk.

But like sf3 says maybe he ought to adress the coming disaster.

Besides at this point in time what does the cwb have to do?

The 09/10 crop is sold and the 10/11 crop is not looking to good.

                Another question.

Isn't goodale admitting he screwed up by wanting to change what he put in place?

First off, private members bills almost never go anywhere.

Secondly, these turkey's are all going on vacation in a couple of days. There's no time for Goodale to do anything.

It's all a big show. But it does show how out of touch the Liberals are. And Ritz's comments in the article show that the Conservatives are just about as out of touch on this issue as the Liberals. Enough with this getting cute with directors elections, let us sell our own grain already.
