WE NOW have a CANOLA 'single desk' that has marketed every last kernel of CANOLA our farm has grown for decades.
THE CANOLA 'Single desk' is a global transparent futures contract called the 'ICE CANOLA'. "The canola futures contract is the world benchmark for canola trading. The contract prices physical delivery of canola seed free-on-board value in the par delivery region.'
Canadian Dollars... derlivery in western Canada... what a superb execution of a Canadian 'single desk'!
The Ausies all us the "ICE Canola single desk". The US growers and industry use the "ICE Canola single desk".
WHAT made me think of the 'The canola futures contract' as a single desk... is is because we have the world benchmark for canola trading HERE, RIGHT in western Canada. The contract prices physical delivery of canola seed free-on-board value in the par delivery region at can you believe it 'Saskatoon'... of all places on this planet.
Oh how this must irk the CWB...

The CWB 'single desk' sits in Winterpeg... at 423 main... short changing all other wheat growers... by undercutting the futures contracts that trade our wheat in the global market place.
THAT is RIGHT... CWB 'price discrimination' is truly just a CWB excuse for discounting our CWB 'designated area' wheat.
What happens if the same countries Chuckchuck mentions..."Iraq, Mexico, Sri Lanka, China, Indonesia, Japan, Brazil, Bangladesh, Canada and the US" want my families Canola???
ALL of these countries must bid against each other to get my produce... called Canola!!!

When the price goes down... folks who can't pay as much... step in and buy. This happens day after day. Week after week.
Japan wants Canola almost every day... the keep the market up... and often pay real and farm gate premiums for our Canola. As do the Crushers our farm sells to.
I CAN NOT sell a kernel... to Bunge on our Canola basis contract... without live trading it through the ICE Canola futures 'single desk'.
