It has been nice to hear our Commander and Chief
of the Canadian Wheat Board, Allen Oberg,
interviewing again while stomping his feet in
regards to change. As a progressive farmer, I am
very open to change with respect to removing the
single desk system of the Canadian Wheat Board.
By doing this I will finally be allowed to sell a
product which I have paid to manufacture to a
customer of my choice.
I cannot believe the amount of my money which has
been wasted on a plebiscite which was totally
flawed. I sell over $1million worth of various grain
products yearly and was not even allowed to vote
on malt barley. The reason for this is that I haven't
sold any for 5 years to the CWB. I haven't grown it
for 5 years BECAUSE of the CWB and it's marketing,
yet some landlord who hasn't grown any malt barley
in 30 years gets to vote because he has a name on
the permit book of someone who has! This
procedure was ridiculous.
Now I hear the CWB is preparing to sue the federal
government to try and keep the board intact. I
believe that the board members that are signing on
for this lawsuit should put their houses and
pensions up to pay for the legal bills in case their
challenge fails. Why should I be spending more of
my money in order to fight something that should
have been shelved long ago.
I do not believe that the CWB has done anything but
cost me money for the last 4 or 5 years with respect
to marketing my wheat. Any marketing program
put forth by the Board only creates the illusion of
free marketing but is still tied to pool marketing.
The system is old and any information that the CWB
provides can be found every day on an email that
comes to my house or even my cell phone every
morning.
I am tired of hearing how “The farmers have
spoken” all the while wasting yet more of my money
to save a dying antiquated system that only
encourages "ostrich" marketing. Allen, and his
troop of socialist supporters have in their infinite
wisdom, decided to try and save the dinosaur
without putting one ounce of effort into trying to
survive in a free marketing system.
Our esteemed Allen Oberg has stated many times
publicly that the CWB is "farmer owned" and as
such, I would like paid out for my percentage of
ownership. I no longer wish to be an owner in this
flawed corporation that is not willing to accept
change and only stomp it's feet like a child who has
had it's toy taken away.
Any self-respecting “Owner” of the CWB should feel
the same.
