The latest Council attempt to prevent anyone using a soapbox from which to ask questions was made last night.
It is clear that council will not willingly participate in public meetings. It is apparently felt that "open mike's" would be misused.
Agriville was specifically mmentioned as another example of misuse of a public forum that must be stopped from publicizing lies and misinformation. Of course everyone locally knows everything that is going on; but the rest of the world is being mislead by what you have read in this forum.
I think that if anyone continues to ask many further questions; and post what they honestly think they heard firsthand; there will be a call to stop certain posters; or possibly shut down sites such as agriville. What lies ahead for the posters is unknown; but the threat has been clearly made. The threats came in the most cowardly manner; with the full protection of the barrier between the council table and the public gallery.
Last night Council also labelled another unrelated ratepayer and their family as being responsible for their own problems. I do know that the dozens of others who have been treated with the same disdainby Council would be outraged if they only knew about their attckers.
As per usual, appathy and disconcern is rampant. As per usual, not one factal rebuttal from those who feel they have not be fairly portrayed, and few interventions by the public to support basic rights have been submitted.
What is being attacked is all models of soapboxes (public meeting, the press, individuals, Agriville etc. etc). That should be of great concern for society.
There are reasons why local people can't/won't speak up. But what reasons do the rest of the world have for silence? Remember that this mindset can spread much closer to your home.
