I think it says something about farming in general when outfits like Hudye's are selling out. The risk for reward is going to get way out of whack in this business. There will be many many more sellouts like this in the not too distant future.

Ya done deal, seen press release. Never ever a better time to sell in history. Ben - good timeing. He knows nothing goes up that fast can last. Long term - no doubt trend up but things have gone way too far too fast, U.S. housing market JMO. Current land price and rents can not sustain themselves - one little sneeze in Europe and all hall will break loose(08?). Hutterites are way more long term than any family farm, family corp or invester group - complete different ball game, like it or not. Bolth sides good deal IMO. There is no money at $80-100/ac rent or $250-300k per 1/4. We live in Sask not Iowa, look at a GDD map.

furrowtickler - "... We live in Sask not Iowa, look at a GDD map."

Exactly. And here in mid-western Ontario land is selling for considerably more than in Iowa where they can consistently grow 40 - 50 bu. more corn and 15 bu. bigger soy crops.

          http://www.extension.iastate.edu/agdm/wholefarm/pdf/c2-75.pdf

In our area land is selling for 8 - 12K/ac. and grows 160 bu corn. Just south east of us it is 12 - 18K/ac for slightly more heat units.

It is mostly supply management money with a few cash croppers and the odd hog farmer in the mix. Very odd . . .

Not many beef guys in the game any more.

My guess is that Oberg stuffed alot of lawyers bank accounts before he left, under the disguise of public relations to continue this battle for quite awhile.

What makes Hutterites more competitive is
that they do not waste money on
                  unimportant things like family vacations
etc. leaving more for what is important
like land and equipment. Nothing magic
                  about it.

Hutterites live to work, I tend to work to live.

And I am ok with that. Like I said on other threads, I have never seen a hutterite waterski, play ball, go fishing etc. I see them at farm progress show but I don't consider that recreation.

SW Len Miller land. My ISC searches proved it to myself. Actually old news deal was made before last crop year. I even know now what everyone is paying for land. Not many do not have the purchase price listed.
