    Dumb Question

Thinking about this endowment fund thinger majigy
    and wondering something.

How is it in todays world farmers benefit from new
seed varieties when we have to pay for it threw the
    nose.

"hay guys thanks for spending money, now spend
    some more"

I have always wondered why, if we pay for the research and the devevopment, the seed costs is double commercial price of grain.

It should be the regular price plus the cost of cleaning. Seed growers definitely make a fortune.

Oh well, I am not getting into that game. I buy small lots of new seed every few years and do the multiplying myself.

Of interest, a friend of mine and I were talking, if new varieties proved out the way they say in yield improvement we should have 80bpa on spring wheat now. As every variety since red fife has had a 10 percent yield increase over the predecessor.

How much per pound will canola seed be when they get the Club Root and Sclerotinia resistance both in the same variety ?? Mother nature still has the greatest influence.

one of me best mates first generation
          seed producer.
          paddocks inspected before seeding,during
          seeding operation inspectors come out
and make sure seeding equipment is clean
and passed clean, paddocks are then
walked by inspectors about 3 times
during the growing season, seed cleaning
equipement must be passed each time
grain is clean and again inspected and
          approved, purity tests germination tests
etc etc then some years growers cancel
orders of seed etc etc it aint beer and
          skittles.
i was like you originally thinking it
was racketeering and price gouging its
          not when you whats involved.
and farmers scream blue murder if they
found a foriengn weed from seed
          producers
