    Fusarium Scam

I had my wheat samples graded at several companies, everything from a #2 to Canada Feed on account of fusarium. To satisfy my own curiosity I had those same samples tested for vomitoxin(DON), all tested greater than .5% but less than 2%. Supposedly acceptable for "human consumption". So why Canada Feed. Just goes to show the relationship between visually "picking" a sample and testing for actual vomitoxin don't necessarily correlate.

Why is it, it seems when they grade grain they focus soley on what is wrong with it and not all the positive attributes? Hell, if it is heavier than average, good protein level, dry, acceptable falling number who cares if it has afew midge or fusarium damaged kernels, and the small percentage of damage it takes to knock it down to the next grade is almost laughable. Sad part is the CGC sets the standards but the grain companies sure use them to their advantage.

obviously you're a glass half full kind of a guy.

Just curious if you have a process of off the combine sampling and have these samples independently graded through the CGC Harvest survery or some process? Actually knowing what you have for sale is likely a good place to start in marketing.

How much do you want to bet that it doesn't leave the grain company as Canada feed?

Knowing what you have for sale is a very important tool.

However making sure that the grader is assessing properly is important too. I have to wonder why there is a dif between elevators from a #2 all the way to CF? Do the elevators not know how to assess properly or are they just trying to make extra grade at your expense?

I understand that there is up to 20% miss grades on unloads at port. This is where they know that it is going to be checked by a third party. What would the % be at the elevator where nobody is going to be checking them?

If you aren't checking grade, protein and dockage at unload or when you make a deal you are leaving yourself open to lost revenue. There is such a thing as human error, it is up to you to catch it.

Why don't producers learn the quality of what they produce and the effects on the end use, so they can sell their product instead of taking others word for it? I trust my quality assessment and the elevator has to agree with me, because I assess by the Guide then I can sell to them bases on my grains attributes and price accordingly.

Like I posted in another trend. Out of 6 elevators not one did the dockage properly. Also not one assessed my midge damage properly, according to the guide. Only 2 were accurate to my protein check sample, one was low by .6%.

The CGC has the Guide that the industry is suppose to fallow however they don't check to see if elevators are fallowing it or see if the graders can/are grading properly. Self regualated that worked well in the beef industry didn't it.

Not trying to put anyone down but the way we used to sell our produce has changed and producers should be teaching themselves quality control so they can protect themselves in this new market place. Blending for grade improvement, dockage sales, and protein blending used to be returned back to us (to a point) through share profits in the grain companies we owned and through the CWB pool. Now once we dump our truck we're done, we can't get any more on blending, dockage sales or protein.

And then Viterra puts an offer out that has #3 cwad equal to the #1 cwad price.

So you have to wonder why it matters.

They asked me to sell some, I said they were not paying enough for my number 1, obviously.

They were just buying tonnes and hoping the smaller guys with quality would blend off the big boy's shit around Moose jaw with ergot, fuzz etc.

I agree, the CGC is there to give you an
unofficial grade. Then you have a foot to stand
              on!
