No Wd the canola varieties from some companies
are the shits. Sorry l150 is one dud.
Not sure on how much phos to add to the beans,
treating seed in east sask and Manitoba I think is
a must on beans.

We have bean growing soybeans for 4 yrs now.
Each yr doubling our acres. Variety selection seed
treatment and double innoculation is important.
We have been skipping the phos but using 9-
10lbs of granular innoculant. Our yields have
been from 30ave our first year to 45ave this year.
Early varieties with light sensitivity is a MUST!!!!
We farm on the west side of lake dauphin.
Soybeans are now a major part of our rotation
and will surpass canola in 2013. General rule of
thumb if you grow 40bu canola you only need
27bu beans. Beans also help mellow ground
somewhat like peas and can handle wetter
ground and the heat. Variety selection is key. I
know I am repeating myself but the wrong variety
will leave you with a possible wreck.

How will those yields look at say, oooh, about $8.50/bu. next year this time?

And just how will 8.50 canola look when you pull off a 25 bu crop and you are left paying the ridiculous expenses? I am not yet convinced that beans are the magic answer yet for this area, but I will cautiously try them and go from there. I have grown alot of fababeans here with good success so soys should work here.I said a few years ago canola sucks. More of you are seeing it now.

The $8.50/ bu could refer to soybeans. Soybean
meal is at a lot higher levels than soybean oil and has
more potential to come down more. Put in your own
scenario for South America production. Livestock
number will continue to come down and this will
impact meal demand in North America. China is the
reason oilseed complex prices are high - run your
scenarios on their policy over the next year.

Try 100ac... I will tell you why.

2010... had Beautiful waist high 100 ac soy... did everything right... double innoculant phos... light sensitive varieties... too cold in Aug/Sept... NO SEED YEILD. COST $15,000.

2012... 30bu/ac cause Aug/Sept was warmer and didn't freeze till October.

Now we have to roast the soy to feed it to anything!

I would wait till I had a long term weather forcast (saying it was to be hot and no Sept frost) I trusted... till planting soy in central SK/AB on hundreds of acres.

We need a minimum of $50M of light sensitive/cold tolerance varietial development to get soy crop risk down.

When Crop Insurance will cover the soy crop... THEN I will start planting field scale.
