Is SkPulseCrDevBd IN a 'Conflict of Interest'???

    Haveapulse,

    To have the lead pulse breeder of CDC Saskatoon in 'charge' on the SPG BOD;
Is squarely looking at a conflict of interest.

New varieties that CDC develop... with funding of pulse growers across western Canada (Alberta Pulse funds as them as well)... in charge of the release of which and to whom...

Not only must be fair and transparent...

BUT ALSO APPEAR the be Fair and Transparent; for our trust to be maintained.

$$$Millions of Dollars are spent... New varieties are being sold to individual companies... who then stand to benefit; at the expense of western Canadian pulse growers who paid for much of the development work in the first place.

Does Bert/SPG et. al; REALLY understand ...

What this looks like to many growers who have invested tens of thousands into these pulse breeding programs???

I don't believe Dr. Al Slinkard would have done this.

We need transparent and dependable work done on Soy (Not in SPG Mandate?)* and Faba beans... they can lead us out of the wilderness on tight canola, pea, and lentil rotations.

*“pulse” means the edible seeds of peas, beans fababeans, chick peas, broad beans or lentils; (légumineuses en graines)

This whole issue of breeder rights is
    questionable. Producers and taxpayer dollars
fund the R&D. I would like to see a transparent
draw of pegigreed growers who would multiply
the seed and be required to sell to individual
    producers. Producers should automatically have
    first dibs at the seed.

program to growers or perhaps the SPG

It all fits in doesn't it. But first it must be exposed.

I know it not pretty; but these things can be so bad that even the worst cynic never thought of some of the repulsive consequences.

Pretty bad stuff; but at the very least.........

THE PERCEPTION OF ANY OF THOSE POSSIBILITIES BEING ABLE TO HAPPEN IS EQUALLY SERIOUS.

Thank you Tom; for bringing those comments to the attention of a tuned out public which is largely in a state of denial.

I know I won't be getting any of their special
                release varieties now.

MPG collect levies on soybeans sales. They are becoming embarrased with the size of the levies. The quantity of sales occuring now was unexpected and changes are needed.

You may want to google names to determine
who gains from patents registered in various
countries also including USA, Australia etc. For
                    example:
                    Albert Vandenberg Saskatoon patent
Do the same with all directors.

                    Flax association as well

                    Always follow the money
                    Then recognize conflict of interest.
                    Then cut off mandatory funding.

Just because an organization has a Code of Conduct and maybe even accompanying Code of Ethics does not necessarily mean that the organization does not condone widely unaccepatble practices.
Its all about if there is any effective enforcement of principles that might be seen as basic rights and privileges of treatment of every member of society.
Those codes may be but window dressings to hide the rot and decay behind those locked doors and covered windows.

If you don't get your fair chance Tom; then lets all make sure that those with at least perceived conflicts don't get any chance to benefit either.

Lets then work on the real root issues.

                            oneoff

Just curious if you have ever served a term on any of
the major farm organization board of directors? Not
an easy job to keep your interests separated from
those of the community you represent. Several
others who post here have performed this role very
well and provided value to the industry.

If anyone doesn't like the direction of a farm
organization, run for a director or support someone
who is willing to perform this role. Getting tired of
seeing director/delegate roles filled by acclamation
based on the current regional team hussling to find
people willing to be involved or in one case, ending
the meeting with open positions that will need to be
filled by existing directors. Not the case in another
topic (is an election) so farmers in those areas have
                            choices/are able to vote.

                              charlie..
                              Two things to say

1] Seems to me that the agricultural industry gets to speak for me everytime. Example: The decision about abandoning the bonding process; and guess who comes up with insurance paid for by the farmer as the new way that financial solvency of buyers will be provided
And only then is a pretense made that all ears are open, for producer input.
2 What bothers me is that in all liklihood; anyone who has different suggestions or ideas is marginalized; ridiculed and told what a thankless, poorly paying job the leaders have. On top of that there is usually no intention to make room for dissenting opinions; and in fact there are usually strong efforts to see that suitable replacements are the only ones let in.

I challenge you and anyone else to refute the things I say; instead of concentrating on suggesting becoming involved. There isn't one of those 66%ers who would support my election as dog catcher; and those people would vote for absolutely anyone they had in their pocket or would be the worst possible choice.

Tell me I'm wrong; but don't support any leadership that is a disgrace to the person themselves or the society they are meant to represent in general.
Now some day when electors become more involved; and informed and leaders realize they are accountable and start seeking those positions for the right reasons; and the job is worthwhile; and the scope and size of the job becomes relevant.......................................... ....................

                              Not until then
