    Eye opener

I spent a day at the Western Grazing Conference in
Red Deer this week and wow it was an eye opener for
me. Excellent presentations that really challenged the
"conventional wisdom" of much of modern production
    agriculture.
Dr Christine Jones, a renowned Australian soil
scientist did a presentation via satellite link. Take a
look at slides 16-20 if nothing else from this
previous presentation she gave to see what has
happened to the quality of our food.

I've followed that up by watching a recent video of a
conference presentation by Don Huber the renowned
expert on soils and glyphosate. This is an hour well
spent for anyone that plans on remaining in
    agriculture.

My overwhelming thoughts at the moment are how
could we have got it so far wrong? It's time to make
some changes on my operation - how about you?

Ya, Huber is a real shining star! First
that glyphosate and its affects of
nutrient uptake on RR soy and corn. Now
a mystery pathogen that affects those
        same crops.

Oh well, i guess he learned from Percy
Schmeiser that being paid for public
speaking for that certain 'crowd' by
bashing Monsanto without any real data
        is a great retirement plan.

I managed to watch most of the clip. There are a lot of graphs and research put up in Huber's presentation. There is a Saskatoon researcher who correlates use of glyphosate with the increased frequency of fusarium in wheat. I will have to look at this again to make a solid judgement. I dont think all the researchers are complete idiots. They are doing it for information gathering and research. My neighbor had serious fusarium in his wheat this year. I saw the sample of chicken feed wheat. I told him straight that he did not spray enough fungicide. He spend something like 200,000 on a really good sprayer with autosteer and lots of fancy stuff on it and then barely used it just for weed spraying and dessicating.
Time will tell if what Huber says is true. Looking on the bright side, if yeilds drop as predicted, prices will increase.

Hobby if glyphosate is not ever sprayed in crop then how would glyphosate have an effect on fusarium. I can understand possibly a fuasarium increase if a chemical weekens a certain crop in a certain way but glypho has no effect on any crop if not sprayed on it, maybe no till could have an effect. I guess grassy and hobby are just giving us a heads up on the people they market to and their thinking. Then again if you have a gold mine of idiots buying your foods should you not keep that a secret?

I guess you didn't watch or take in the information.
It was all about the residual effect of the glyphosate
in the soil and how it chelates the minerals causing
plants to be more susceptible to disease, drought
              and other environmental factors.
