    Global Institute for Food Security

    Media Release
    December 5, 2012

    Wheat Growers applaud formation of
    Global Institute for Food Security

    The Western Canadian Wheat Growers
    Association applauds and congratulates
PotashCorp, the Province of Saskatchewan and
the University of Saskatchewan for their
leadership in forming a world-class food security
    research institute.

“This is phenomenal. The province of
Saskatchewan is truly becoming a global leader in
    agriculture,” says Kenton Possberg,
Saskatchewan Vice President of the Wheat
Growers. “The Global Institute for Food Security
will only add to our growing reputation as the
place to invest in agriculture and food research.”

The Wheat Growers see the Institute as being of
tremendous value to farmers, here on the prairies
and across the globe. It will bring researchers
together to collaborate on ways to boost yields,
improve nutrition, enhance soil quality and
    increase food production and trade.

“This Institute will attract the best and brightest
researchers from around the world,” enthuses
Cherilyn Nagel, Past President of the Wheat
Growers. “It will cement the province’s reputation
as one of the best places for innovation in the
grains sector. It sends a signal to other
agricultural companies that western Canada is
    THE place to invest.”

WGRF Applauds Global Institute for Food
    Security

    “The Western Grains Research Foundation
    (WGRF) congratulates the Province of
    Saskatchewan, the University of Saskatchewan,
and Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. on
the establishment of the Global Institute for Food
Security,” said Dave Sefton of Broadview SK and
WGRF Board Chair. “WGRF is very supportive of
    partnerships between producers, private industry
and public institutions to increase the productivity
    of western Canadian producers.”

“Western Canada is well positioned to increase its
share of world food exports and the establishment
of the Global Institute for Food Security places
Saskatchewan in a leadership position,” said
Gerrid Gust of Davidson SK and WGRF Board
    Executive Member. “Producers need higher
yielding cereal, oilseed and pulse varieties along
with the best agronomic tools to increase
production on their farms,” says Gust. “The Global
Institute for Food Security along with the cluster of
public and private researchers on the University of
Saskatchewan campus and at Innovation Place
    can do this for us.”

“WGRF invests over $6 million of producers’
dollars annually into crop variety development and
agronomic research and the University of
Saskatchewan is an important research partner,”
said Garth Patterson, WGRF Executive Director.
“We plan to increase our research funding by $15
million over the next four years and I am confident
that the University’s increased research capacity
will attract a portion of this funding.”

      leave
Saskabush to remember to turn the lights
      off........ Now this a forward
      thinking group involved in Gag,
wowwsers, what next a group dedicated to
      preserving ground water, nahhhhhhhhh,
that'll never happen, oilies need to
pollute that resource sooos don't stand
