Without a doubt in my mind I strongly believe, from all the people I know and have met through my life including my friends and family who are raising their own families to the people I have worked with and for, that all of these destructive instances are caused by people who had a loveless, but abuse filled childhood.

The main focus has been on gun control and a tiny bit on mental health but I have heard of no mention anywhere of the root cause.

Fathers, strong fathers play an important role in
moulding the minds of their young men. There is
no substitute for good example. No one mentions
what happens to children when a parent says to
hell with my family, I'm off to find my own
Nervana. Don't care what you guys do. I was a
flower child. My world was one of free thought,
open expanses. Mistakes were made but at the
juncture, I made a contract with my spouse and
God and knew that from that day on, we were so
committed to the life we made that we were
there for a long time, not just for the good times.
Within society, this committment is gone and
children flounder as the get tossed around
between single parents. Some survive unscathed,
but if you asked them what knid of childhood
they would have preferred, what do you think
they would say? i am not preaching, I just feel
sorry for kids from broken homes who live with
fighting and court cases, custody battles, parents
bad mouthing the other parent. They stick their
little noses in an electronic painkiller for hours
every day instead of following their dad to the
shop to build a dune buggy or to the barn to feed
the animals. Just my perspective. Hope I have
not made too many enemies. Thumbs up, good
        parents.

sumdumguy: There is so much truth in what you say. I'm sure that most who come to this site agree with your thoughts on the family and its importance. I've seen with my own eyes contemporaries who don't treat their kids with the respect they should have and are planting the seeds of dissent and distrust which will surface sooner or later. We need more parents as 4H leaders and volunteers who can make a difference in children's lives. Kids need direction, not just orders barked at them when they come home from school.

I am going to get slaughtered for putting this here but so be it. If you look at the whole picture a strong argument can be made that the root cause of all these terrible happenings in society today is money.

Money doesn't cause trouble. People do.

The reality in many states in the USA is any fool can go into a store and purchase any kind of gun they want without a background check. This includes criminals and those planning to commit a crime.

You can talk all you want about the loss of faith, mental health issues etc.etc. but if you are going to encourage everyone and let everyone own a gun who wants to, you are going to end up with a lot of guns being used to kill innocent people.

If religious faith really prevents crime how do you explain why many Priests and Church officials have committed horrendous sexual abuse crimes against thousands of children?

You are correct Kodiak. But what CAUSES people to do these types of things? I am sure this doofus was not meant to go kill a school full of kids when he was born. Simply stating that "people" do this is pretty meaningless.
