    Prayers and Thoughts for families

To those parents and families victoms of the horrible shooting in the USA. Can't imagine what the parents are going through. Made me stop and think about family alot more today.

If you are pissed about something go do something to yourself, what the hell do you get out of hurting innocent others and then cowardly killing yourself.

This another shocking and sad event.

Equally sad is the USAs inability to deal with very high rates of gun violence.

One of the mistakes we often make after such a tragedy is assuming that people who commit such violence would be rational and have normal emotional responses. They do not. There is always something terribly wrong inside the minds of those who commit this level of violence.

The other issue is the American obsession with guns and the culture of violence that goes along with it. Very high rates of gun ownership including military assault rifles and the cultural inclination to resolve disputes with gun violence are part of the problem.

There are those within the gun culture in the US and Canada who mistakenly believe that an armed population will be safer. I guess they assume that the psychopaths would stop and rationally think, I may be shot by a citizen carrying arms in self defense, before they entered a school, theater or university and start shooting.

Easy access to guns and lax gun laws allowing those with violent and psychopathic personalities to access guns is a recipe for a big problem.

Letting citizens armed in self defense shoot first, if they feel threatened, then ask questions later is a serious breakdown in the rule of law.

Reread what I wrote meant to say go do something For yourself.

You are right there obviously is something wrong. But I also struggle with saying they are insane in each case because it takes so much planning and cunningness to complete these acts that there obviously is quite a thought process going on at some level.

I don't know if just me but we are living in an increasingly uncaring society. I see it in the farming sector and generally throughout our society. Maybe if we would consider successful people those that are good to others more than successful people being those that are rich it would help.

          hedge,

Suicide shooters do not stop just like the bombers in
          9/11 and terrorist attacks globally.

Civilisation goes sideways in a hurry when there is no
          fear of God and eternal accountability taught about;
          after we die.

We are simply reaping what we have sown... laws
written on paper do NOT stop people from doing
          terrible activities.

God bless and comfort the folks down south.

They should be made to register all
their guns. Then they could be held
accountable for them. Oh f-ck, we did
that in Comedia and it was a total
failure, waste of time and 3 - 4 billion
Comedian dollars, down the drain, no
wait, giant make work project for
Eastern Comedia, so it wasn't really a
                  waste, was it?
Amerika has gun ownership enshrined in
its constitution, and are the worlds
largest dealers in weapons of all kinds.
They built the culture, training the
young ones how ta use the weapons,
sending them to war, then flying them
home, angry and dangerous. God Bless
Amerika! You reap what you sow, from
                  the looks of it......... Terrible
tragedy, but freedom isn't free is it?

I think Tom, you are right. Some have forgotten
the ten commandments and the laws that God
passed down to us. I am guilty, too of putting
every other thing ahead of teaching my kids the
value of fearing the lord. What about, honour thy
                    father and thy mother!

Guess the world is full of fruitcakes, now we
have to arm ourselves against them. My little
grandkids want to live. Hope the govt allows
                    self-defense. I worry about copy-cat syndrome.

Hmmmm?????? I fer one can't wait till The Big Zero is Layed Out, This Gun Comes with 8 Clips, Shoot till Theys Run out of It!!!!!!!!

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it."

                      -- Abraham Lincoln, 4 April 1861

"The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the "high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)]

"...to disarm the people - that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them." (George Mason, 3 Elliot, Debates at 380)

"When the people fear their government there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." – Thomas Jefferson

"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
--Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824.

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the Body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind . . . Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks."
--Thomas Jefferson, Letter to his nephew Peter Carr, August 19, 1785.

"No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms (within his own lands or tenements)."
--Thomas Jefferson: Draft Virginia Constitution with (his note added), 1776. Papers, 1:353

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
--Thomas Jefferson, quoting Cesare Beccaria in On Crimes and Punishment (1764).

                        'Gun control' blizzards are inevitable
                        but misguided.
In this case they were legally owned
                        by the mother.
This tragedy could have happened with
something less easy but just as fast.
                        A gopher gun, machete, chainsaw
                        whatever.
A drunken schoolbus driver would have
                        made far less headlines.
How culpable is the mother, knowing
                        her son was unstable??
                        And short sighted 'control' freaks
never mention the real cause. MENTAL
                        ILLNESS!
                        Our society denies it's existence
until it's catastrophic. My heart goes
out to all families affected by it, as
most are not equipped to deal with it.
BTW I notice few of these tragedies
happen in Texas. And yes my children
will be taught the safe and responsible
                        use of these tools.

BTO - small dick, big gun= makes you feel
powerful. All your quotes are from a century or
more ago, have we not evolved somewhat?
Blackpowder, you nailed it. Our system is built
around retribution and revenge, not prevention.
Building more prisons will not solve the primary
problems at all. And the solution is a tough one.
And there is no doubt that gun ownership in the US
is out of control. 300 million weapons owned, you
can go in a gun store and buy an automatic assault
rifle. To hunt deer? Give me a break. Tom is right,
there is something missing from our social fabric.
Wrath of God? Maybe for some. But self respect and
a respect for the life of others even more so. This
poor soul set out to commit suicide, but for some
reason chose to make a big show of it and lash out
and hurt as many as he could. Knowing that could
be a starting point at prevention. LEARN TO GET
                          HELP...

Rockpile: you make a point I've been
thinking about myself. Why do civilians
need military assault rifles? I am not
a proponent of the gun registry or
outright gun control, but when it comes
to hand guns or military assault rifles,
why??? I could even live with the
registration of hand guns but military
assault rifles are off limits. And I
suppose you're all right, when it comes
to criminals and the mentally ill no law
                            will prevent their actions.

As I understand it the Bushmaster was left in his
car. Not the point I know. Civilian versions of true
"assault" weapons can in no way be safely or legally
modified for select fire. In Canada 5 round mags are
the legal max size. "Assault" in appearance only. A
                              handy misnomer.
My 70 year old Garand however, is legal with its 8
round en bloc clip. Twice the cartridge size. Full
                              wood stock, looks harmless right?
