        Merry Christmas to you too
        farmaholic. Didn't mean sound
that rash but I can't grasp
        how so many seem surprised
        that commodity prices
        oscillate. It sucks but those
        prepared for anything other
than $14 canola at 60bpa will
        probably weather this storm
        fine.

              ado

Why should the cpp investment board be
              bailing out investors in farmland?

This year would have a lot of those
              investment groups with renters walking
away and zero or negative return on
their capital. Instead the government of
Canada gets to take the licking.

And more than likely the managers of
these groups are making their salaries
              managing this for the cppib.

That's a larger subsidy than most
farmers get from the government, on both
the investor side and the manager side.

              Maybe you could explain why?

Although I am responsible for my finances, I will
not accept blame for the price of land and
machinery. Ado, may I suggest counselling?

CPP investing in farmland is like coming
to the party late. That ship may have
sailed. What is disturbing is that the
Government which is really the tax payer
will bear the brunt of this. It would
be interesting to see who the main
investors are in Assiniboia and who they
are really bailing out. Would be
interesting if any dots could be
                  connected. Time will reveal. I've
always said when you're playing with
someone else's money your never quite a
prudent as if it was your own.
                  Incompetence or corruption, both stink.

It has nothing to do with coming to any party, the CPPIB is bailing these guys out.

Imagine how some guys feel that sold land in the last couple years that could have just waited for the government to give them higher than market prices.

This opportunity should be available to any farmer wanting to get out not just Assiniboia, especially when the government is involved.

BTW, sure perked up a few ears in Ottawa when they found out their hard earned CPP fund was buying land at a high.

I think you understand what my point
was, if CPP wanted to invest in land
they should have done it 5 years ago.

Can you determine if there is any Crony
                      Capitalism at play here?

If they Government wanted to invest in
farm land why didn't they hire or
appoint an agent and start buying
instead of buying an existing Company?

                        Yes, I did understand.

But this is such an obvious bail out it makes me sick.

And then you have guys thinking the government shouldn't bail out farmers.

What happens to these lands when the tennants bail?

The story has been written and read many times already.

It takes decades for the farm community to become prosperous again.

Now its all ****ed up again or will be soon enough.

When teachers, lawyers, accountants and family members that couldn't make it when times were shitty want to start farming again, you know the high is in and its time to get out.

It really is time for me to get out.

bucket: Is it even an age issue or sick
of being on the treadmill? Or playing
"Their" game with "Their" rules that
"They" change, at will, to suit
                          "Themselves"?

In reality I really have a lot to be
grateful for but am having a real hard
time feeling it lately. Maybe for the
                          above listed reasons for starters.

Personally I don't mind being on a treadmill or marathon, I enjoy the nice pace of it all.

It just pisses me off when I have to sprint just to finish the race.

Farming is a marathon not a sprint.

I don't need to get rich, never was my intention. More to be well respected, with a productive life and productive kids as a legacy.

Is a marathon a race against the pack or a
challenge to beat your own personal best.
I would think in farming you're competeing against
both sprinters and marathoners. Depending on
the race being run determines the winner, enter the
                              right race?

Do you honestly feel respected or abused.

                              Noble aspirations!

Bucket, I don't think the cpp deal was a
bail out, I think it was simply some
idiot bureaucrats buying into the land
craze 3 years late. Regardless if it is
a bailout as you say I don't support
that either. Farmaholic why do you feel
I need therapy because I refused to be a
buyer of $50k quaters at 250k or running
rent from $29 to 85. Maybe it's because
I stuck with the reliable older canola
varieties instead of getting caught up
spending $12 lb for the latest greatest,
no I bet it's because instead of buying
new equipment I found good used stuff
for 40% less. It wasn't long ago $9
                                canola was a great price
