We need a railway plan in Canada that's what a government is for. Get a strategy or we will have the same shit that happened last winter repeat over and over and over. We put up our Billions in lost sales. Show some leadership and find a solution.

I agree %100. It's time for this harper
govt to help work out a plan for
transportation that works for all parties
and not one that favours only the
      railways.Also,how much thought actually
went into UPOV91 so we will know what the
seed industry will like in 10 years. This
govt appears to be a slave to big
      interests. Very unfortunate;I thought it
      would be better.

I think a lot of people on different boards that attend these meetings. Seed or railways. Attend for a reason they play farm or don't farm or say they farm or have their kids do all the work etc Real hands on I doubt.
Or people don't learn history. The railways since 1918 have had a great time.
Sad we need leadership now more than ever and I don't think we have any on the Ag file.
We need someone who can push his weight plus is logical plus understands its Farmer 1 then trickle down. Not Top down to us.
The seed will be like Canola $60.00 a acre for seed, Deregister great varieties and keep coming up with SFA in traits but tell us its a little better than before.
Canola is prime example. It will happen with Wheat.

I may have voted conservative for the
          last time.

There are farms losing 100,000 on basis
levels due to logistic problems and this
is the best they can do.

And give the railways 4 weeks to gear
          up.

          It really disappointing.

This goverment can't do the math.

Pars a lot of Conservative friends of mine are quietly pissed at the screw up this winter. I have been vocal but their more lets just say calm and quiet. If the pain continues and this doesn't straiten out I'm afraid the vote might be a little different in the rural. Sad but he waited way to long to push them, way to long. Last fall a bunch of us were phoning and complaining. It took way to long.

My calls to Ritz's office started when Ritz said something to the effect that the rilways were doing a good job back in November.

Nobody should ever praise a railway for doing their job. Its moronic.

As Ritz found out and statistics have proven the railways were 15000 cars behind when he made that November announcement.

Ritz is the one to blame. Harper should know this by now.

But don't forget Raitt's office was pretty quiet watching this unfold as well.

Her department wasn't even keeping adequate checks on railway safety. Check some of the two major railway press releases after the Lamagentic railway bomb incident. Both railways said they were reviewing their procedures?????WTF, that means they had the same lax procedures as the railway that forgot to put the brakes on.

Others on here can talk about Hunter Harrison cleaning house, chances are some pretty important safety issues are being relaxed. Cutting a couple key people without knowing their knowledge can have serious effects, maybe not today but down the road, and its too late.

The end game is someone in government or a private entrepreneur better realize we do not have enough track in this country.

And our government might be wise to realize that our highway infrastructure can not handle what the railways are downloading nor can the taxpayers in highway maintenance cost.

When I see rolls of steel on a flatbed on the #1 highway - it is a trip from regina to calgary. Its an interplant transfer. They have the railcars specifically for that. Why is it not just on rail? Because everyone likes "just in time" delivery and the railways can't provide it anymore. And no one can plan better.
